hiam i right in thinking that most welders seem to have different spool gun connection points and theres not a universal spool gunone type fits all? probably a ploy to make you keep buying the same kit! but am i right in thinking all the gun needs is a gas line connection and a power on/off connection via the trigger and possibly an earth?so.... would it be easy enough to take the fitting that connects to the welder from one gun and transfer to another?i am asking because these spool guns seem to vary in fitting and cost and i thought if one came up at a good deal all i need to do is use the end off an old spool gun or mig torch, tig torch etc or a replacement part that allready fits and fit it to the new guncan anybody recomend a spool gun thats a good deal and new? i am looking at basicly rebadged miller guns for around $300thankyou
Reply:I have a Readywelder spoolgun that is universal, will even run on car batteries. The model I have is electrically live all the time, so I need to think about where I set it, but that is not a huge deal. The gas control is connected to the trigger, so that is good. The last time I grabbed it, my regular MIG welder was not powerful enough, so I grabbed a 260 amp multi-process inverter welder out of the shed, hooked it to the readywelder, and had plenty of power. The wire feed speed control knob is too easy to change, so once I get it dialed in I use masking tape to keep it steady. They are not cheap. I bought one used, but a new one is $600.Sculptures in copper and other metalshttp://www.fergusonsculpture.comSyncrowave 200 Millermatic 211Readywelder spoolgunHypertherm 600 plasma cutterThermal Arc GMS300 Victor OA torchHomemade Blacksmith propane forge
