Will flux core bleed through a painted finish over time? It's etching primer, filler primer, sealer, and oil based enamel.I think that's how the truck was painted.
Reply:Yep and I can prove it....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Yes eventually it will
Reply:Ok cool.Thanks.I'll have to find a way to enclose the tractor while I work on it.I was hoping to sneak by with a flux core welder instead of dragging the mig out in the wind.
Reply:There is a reason you will NOT find a fluxcore machine in any bodyshop.......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:On that note.....Can anyone tell me if gas shielded flux core causes bleedthrough on electrolys nickel plating?
Reply:Can pictures be loaded so I can understand. I'm assuming the bleed through is the trail left on the opposite side??
Reply:Even the off the shelf flux cores are pretty sensitive to arc voltage and stick out. If you don't pay particular attention to those parameters I'd guess that you'll end up with a weld deposit with a lot of oxides and nitrides trapped in & at the surface rather than floated out. That's why it's important that you are getting that good consistent slag coating every time all the time. That is evidence that you've got the settings about right. Maybe there are some paints or methods that aren't compatible with the slight amount of aluminum in flux core too. Maybe some pre-treatments work better than others. I'd say that 'in theory', everything set and done right, you should be able to paint over a weldment done with flux core just the same as any other process. There has got to be more to it than "don't use flux core if you are going to paint".  "The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:FWIW, I read somewhere that a mild/medium strength acid wash and rinse will eliminate FC "bleedthrough".
Reply:Sand blasting?Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024
