I'm sure there is already a thread for this so if anybody just wants to link me I would appreciate it. I want to know what is a good rod to use for welding handrails. I'm going to be welding 1/2" pickets , 1"x1/4" flat, and 1 1/2" sched 40 pipe. 6011? 7018? The machine I'll be using in a Lincoln Ranger 225 if that helps....
Reply:6011, 7014, 6013, or 7018 will do. You hand rails are just mild steel and any of these will do. I have used all of them for rails. If the fit up is poor than I would use the 6011 and turn the heat down so I could fill the gaps.
Reply:Like Scott Young said, any 6011, 6013 or 7014's work great. I'd stay with 3/32" and I wouldn't bother with 7018's, especially with an out of position non-flat weld. For hand rails, the 6013's or 7014's are perfect and super easy. If you have unclean hand rails, I'd go with 6010's with DC. Otherwise, 6011's with AC.
Reply:For handrails ..... just about any rod will do. What do you need to get rid of? Use that.
Reply:3/32 6013 rods would be quick a easy for that . the job Im on the iron workers call 6013, hand rail rods. but you can use all the others like scott said
Reply:I myself am a big fan of 7014. Nice weld appearance, little spatter, and super easy to use.Miller Multimatic 255 |
