I have a Bernard Q300 and can't figure out how to adjust the tip stickout.  My tip is about 3/16" recessed.  Unlike other mig guns, the nozzle acts as the retainer for the tip.  I use MIG for short circuit low amperage primarily.  Up to 1/4" thickness.  Does the inner portion of the nozzle thread in and out of it for tip adjustment?TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:The adjustment is made by changing the nozzle.Page 2,http://www.bernardwelds.com/files/SpSh_Centerfire.pdfLast edited by vwguy3; 04-11-2013 at 09:20 AM.
Reply:So for SC transfer on material under 1/4", I'm reading that I should have a flush tip.  Is that correct?The nozzles are quite expensive.  Around $30 a piece.Last edited by Drf255; 04-12-2013 at 04:59 AM.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:Generally  yes you would want the tip approximately flush with the nozzle. However it is possible to weld with the nozzle slightly recessed, it just makes it harder to hold a tight stickout.  You can bump up the volts to compensate for the longer stickout and the "colder" weld that results from that. The kids at the tech school have a bad tendency to demolish the insulators on the tweeco guns. I think 1/3rd of the ones I worked on last night were put on wrong or stripped because some installed them wrong. It's not uncommon for the tips to be recessed because of this. You just learn to compensate and deal with it..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:You can also take the nozzle to e belt sander /grinder or some kind and remove metal untill you are comfortable with the stickout. Beware, this is not a reversible process!!I did this to a nozzle of mine... pretty beat up btw.Mikel
