This is a split tilt skid loader trailer I built. It's all steel tube construction, mostly 2" x 4" x 3/16" tube. The fenders are 10" jr channel. It has 2-7,000 lb axles with electric brakes. This is the second trailer I built for this customer. The first was a full tilt, but he didn't like that much because he couldn't haul his other equipment along as well. So I designed this one for him. To my knowledge it was the first done this way. The front flat is 8' long and the tilt is 12' long for a 20' total length. The tilt pivot is just 4" forward of center so when you pull the latch is tilts down in back for loading, but is balanced well enough so if you want to tip it up you just walk up it and it will tilt down and latch. The latches are a spring loaded 1" pin welded to the front frame and a piece of 1/2" plate with a 1 1/2" hole and a slight bend welded to the tilt section. It has 2 latches. They are connected together with a lever system and that is hooked to a lever on the drivers side of the trailer. The lever has a pin to lock the lever closed for driving and open for loading/unloading. To load you tilt and just back on and the tilt tips down and latches. To unload you just unchain, pull and lock open the latch and drive off.  After completion there was a major rebuild because the customer like to drive his skid on forward and because of that he couldn't get on for 2 reasons. First it was too steep and second he couldn't jump up the 4" tube in the back. So I pulled the axles off and put in 4" drop axles. I also removed the rear tube and replaced it with a 2 x 2 x 5/16" angle. I also had to remove and raise the fenders accordingly. The lights were moved to the sides and forward a bit, behind the fenders.  After that it worked great and is still being used 15 years later, altho it's on it's third owner. Attached Images
Reply:I hope the new owners don't haul a skidsteer the way the guy you built it for did. I doubt his equipment weighed more than the back end of a skidsteer.
