I recently learned a little trick that might help folks make searches on the site.  Google will presort the threads if you place "welding web" in quotes after the key words in your search.  For ex:TIG welding stainless steel "Welding Web"The first thing it brings up is several threads on the WW site. That might make it a bit easier to find what you are looking for.  enjoy,Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools
Reply:Thanks for the tip. I've definitly been doing alot of searches lately. New 161stl arrives today.
Reply:All you need to do is go to the top of any page here..Hit the "Search" button..Then go to "Advanced Search" and follow the instructions..You don't need Google at all when your on this site.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:OP, if you add "site:weldingweb.com" (NO QUOTES) to your google keyword search query, you will get ONLY hits from weldingweb and nowhere else.Bulletin board search functions are often broken. Google is much more powerful. Plus, you don't even have to log in to the site to search itXMT304 (school)SP125+ (home)HF 4x6 BandsawGood judgement comes from experience and much of that comes from bad judgement.
Reply:Often times forum search engines have a minimum required # of characters in a word, generally three.  If you are searching for a welder model # XY, you won't find it.Also, many forum search results are too vague.  A search for 'TIG technique' will result in threads that have either the word TIG or the word technique in them.  If you want to search for threads that contain both words in any order, anywhere within the thread, that's easier on Google.I use the Site:www.weldingweb.com command all the time.
Reply:Sorry about booting this old post but the subject is a pet peeve of mine.  I agree with wirehead and zipzit.  Most site search engines are pretty lame.  Most are just not powerful enough to find specific information and many times seem to get totally confused on simple searches. For example both simple and advanced searches on this site's search engine for "tombstone welders" and "tomb stone welders" turned up zero hits.  Sorry, no results, zip, nadda, nothing!  Follow the instructions?  There lies the crux!  By the time one inputs all the parameters required, a simple search on Google as per the OP advice would have gotten several usable hits.  To be fair, some site based engines sorta work but many do not.  One comes to mind (it's a machining site) that requires you to be logged in and in addition you must enter the "security code" to even initiate the search!  BTW, this site also sends incessant spam (for it's line of magazines and books) once you register, even if you "opt out" during the registration process.  Very annoying!
Reply:There have been times the search function on site has been invalueable. If you need to send a PM to someone, and cant quite recall their name, you can search for users and type the first few letters. The drop down box appears with all the users who start with that. Great for finding other threads and posts by said user if you like some of the work they do, or in my case a vehicle they own.I run an automotive enthusiast's site, and while google is quick for the GP threads, thereare a lot of "lost items" that can only be found via site search. Its more powerful than you think. It seems broken because it runs the last thread posted. Also, if when people filled out the "Tags" button on their thread when they started them, the index would start to become more organized! Google AND site search!
