I took a risk and won this tubing bender on ebay. It looks like a JD Squared type of bender but the seller wasn't sure what brand or what dies it takes. Can anyone identify this or tell me what dies will work for it. It comes with 1 3/4 but I am needing 1 1/4.I have a friend who has the JD2 Model 3 and I was going to have him loan me a set of his dies to see if JD Squared dies will work.
Reply:have a link to the item or a picture?I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Cool Post up some stuff after you get it. weld it like you own it
Reply:I am guessing its a homemade copy of a JD2. If the vertical spacing between the frames matches, no reason you cant use JD dies.If its oversize, you could shim.If its undersize, you could grind or mill their dies to fit, as long as its not so small you need to grind into the die section itself.

Reply:Got the bender today and here are the pics. it is all 1/2 in thick and looks like a protools or JD type bender, probably one of their first production models. Other than the paint chipped in places from normal use it is in perfect shape. I have included some measurements so if anyone has one of these type benders if you could do some measuring on yours and post them so I can see if JD or Protool dies will work. Attached Images
Reply:Don't look like junk to me...Looks like something I want!!Nice score!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I'll measure against my JD squared tomorrow and check back in with you. Thanks for the good pics and measurements, it makes it easy to cross reference. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:I have an older JD2 and there are a few subtle differences....the holes are not in a straight line, the three (i think) closest to the die are offset slightly. The pins have a hook on them, rather than a roll pin, although that is not necessarily significant.  The die and shoe are similar in the way they are fabricated, though i have a new one that is different. I was told that Protools and JD2 were in business together, then split.  I wouldnt be surprised if dies from both were interchangable.  They are great tools for race cars, jeeps etc.
Reply:I had a friend at work bring a set of his dies for his jd model 3 bender up today and we tried them and they will work so I know that JD dies will work  but what I would like to know now is if the Pro tool dies will work also because there dies are about 45 to 50 bucks cheaper. Thanks guys for all your help and feedback.
Reply:If JD fit then Protools won't Sorry fella, you could always borrow you mates dies. Either way I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun.(Ps just seen your PM, sorry for the late reply)

Reply:No I haven't tried them, just what I have been told and read on more than one forum. When I took that picture the bender had been built and working for a couple of months, I only have a 1.125 Die at the moment as it's all I need at present. It works effortlessy, bending over 90deg in one shot as the ram has a 27" stroke. As soon as I have time I'll build it back up (less than 5mins) and take some pic's and maybe some video
Reply:Here is the bender all powder coated and put together. Attached Images
Reply:Wow!!! You've been busy. Looking great.
Reply:nice looking "piece of Junk" you have there...............................  lolI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I bet the guy that sold you the unit will want it back now...Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:That's really nice work you've done to resurrect that "piece of junk" into such a sharp looking piece of gear.  Good score!
