bought some cutting fluid it states mix 1:15 to 1:30 (oil to water)so if i went 1:25 i would ad 1 quart oil to 1/4 quart wateris this wright
Reply:Sounds like they want between 15 to 30 parts water to 1 part oil.So if you wanted to go 1:25 I think it would be 1 part oil to 25 parts water.Do they give a refractometer value if so you can check your mixture by using a refractometer to make sure it is diluted right. Of course this would mean you would need to buy or borrow a refractometerLast edited by 737mechanic; 08-07-2008 at 06:50 PM.
Reply:1 quart oil mixed in with 4 gallons (16 quarts) of water would be in the listed range at a 1:16 ratio.1 quart of oil mixed with 5 gallons (20 quarts) of water is also in the listed range at a 1:20 ratio.1 quart of oil mixed with 6 gallons (24 quarts) of water is also in the listed range at a 1:24 ratio.1 quart of oil mixed with 7 gallons (28 quarts) of water is also in the listed range at a 1:28 ratio.etc, etc, etc.  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:it says for machining and grinding use (oil to water) ratio 1:15 to1:30 for most difficult jobs. high machinability ratings 1:30to 1:50. light grinding 1:50 to 1:60so 1:25 would be 1 gal water to 1 quart oil ?
Reply:No. As MoonRise said above, 1:25 is  one quart oil in 25 quarts water (and 25 quarts water is about 6 gallons water). If you don't want to mix that much, you can use a kitchen measuring cup and add 1 cup of oil to a gallon of water for a 1:16 mix.If you don't want it that 'strong', then don't use quite a full cup oil (maybe 3/4 to 7/8 cup)..

Reply:Just a note for clarification, in ratios the : (colon) means to, as in 1:2 is one part  to two parts with the total parts in the mixture being the sum of the two different portions, or three parts in this case.  ( starting a new battle with this one)
Reply:Sandy is correct.
Reply:1:25 is the same as 1 quart oil to 25 quarts water.
Reply:BTW,  If you use distilled water, the coolant has less of a tendancy to go rancid.Synthetic coolant is the best for alleviating bacteria growth problems. If there's room in the tank to run a small line in, get a small aquarium air pump and a little stone filter and aerorate the coolant occasionally.  This is also an excellent way to prevent the coolant from goin' rancid. That's a nice machine.  Grizzly has some sweet stuff
