Tig Alum Question

I keep running into this problem. I think it may be a gas coverage problem. When I try to add filler, it does not flow into the puddle. It just turns grey and builds up. I took some crappy pictures. Attached Images

Reply:I think you need to build your puddle up more before adding fiiller. With 1/4" youll need to lay on that pedal until you get things flowing. Might try a 3/32 tungsten too.OzDynasty 200DXMiller 210 Spooly
Reply:You are not melting the base enough to add the rod. Basically your rod is not melting into any puddle and is overheating. Slow down, get a good melt between the nut and the plated, then add the rod. I would advise you to clamp down the nut also as it may move when you add the rod.Also do a gas flow check at your torch. Many times the collet can become crushed or the collet body unthreads from the torch and restricts the gas flow. Check your backcap for a missing o ring or hole in the end. Reply:As stated..MORE HEAT.There should be a mirror image of your tungsten in the puddle before you add any filler..That nut is aluminum I presume?Are you trying to weld the nut to the plate?In that case BOTH need the mirror "Look" before adding filler.That can be a challenge because the arc will only concentrate on ONE surface at a time..You need to heat them both up at the same rate by concentrating on the PLATE first then aim at the nut and go back and forth without stopping the arc until both areas are hot enough to add filler.Then you need to connect one to the other and only then will it actually weld like it should....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
