Cleaning solvents / whats safe?

I have been searching for info on safe cleaning solvents for cleaning metal. Brake cleaner a big no-no! I bought a bundle of 1" square tubing and it is basically dipped in used oil.  I'm wondering if there are any other products out there that are as dangerous as Brake Cleaner?Thanks

Reply:In the UK WD 40 is pretty good failing that a light machine oil, But it depends what your cleaning, There are different methods for aluminium, Stainless etc... Its like saying you want a cleaner to clean floors?? what kind??!!
Reply:Acetone, mineral spirits, paint thinner, naptha and isopropyl alcohol are all solvents I've used to "de-greasify" tubing before starting to work with it.   No matter what I'm using if I'm going to have my hands in it for any length of time I like to put on a pair of those disposable blue nitril gloves.   Like to have good ventilation while working with them also.Last edited by HT2-4956; 12-22-2014 at 10:35 AM.

Reply:Thank you for the good information.  Basically I was just checking to see if there were any other products out there you had to be careful with.  PITA is a good way of describing this situation.  In my favor it is still fresh and oily.  I will just wipe down and then wipe with one of the products mentioned.  Thanks again and Merry Xmas!
Reply:I used powdered Tide detergentin water for the major clean ups. Cheap, very effective, non flammable.
