Well I said to heck with workin on Saturday and worked at home. LolGot my bottles mounted to my sa 200 trailer. Still have a couple finishing touches to do but I'm done for the day.
Reply:Is that even legal? If you are ever going to be hit by another car, its probably in one of those exact spots.
Reply:They better not hit me then.
Reply:Look on the bright side.  The big red bottle might deter tailgaiters. Haha

Reply:Welp a local cop helped me mount them today so I'm pretty sure its legal.  They are secure and so are the caps so I reckon its just as safe as having them in the back of a pick up.....heck probably safer....for me anyway! For the guy who plows into the back of my trailer...well all I can say is its dot legal

Reply:I like the simplicity. If you were going to move the back tank rack, it would likely fit on the right tongue rail without blocking access to the battery. It would put the regulators closer together too.Dave J.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 08-03-2013 at 09:55 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:If you do move it, the tongue likely being angle iron, you may see some rotational flexing in that front rail.  Just tie the two tongue rails together when you make the bottom part and it will go away.Dave J.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 08-03-2013 at 09:54 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Those bottles will destroy a car with barely a scratch. Carry on...GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:It is not legal to transport laying down.
Reply:Moving onSo the next topic on the agenda is fire extinguisher placement.  I need a secure way of mounting one, but yet I need it to be easily accessible.  Any ideas?
Reply:jamesyarboughYour O/A bottle configuration is what's missing from the current generation of Lincoln & Miller mobile welders.I'd sell your O/A configuration to  -   Lincoln & Miller  -  both. The proceeds would guarantee a life-long supply of JB Weld.Opus

Reply:You guys haven't got out much have you? 90% if not more of the truck & trailer mounted welders with bottles in the South West are transported in this fashion. Have been for years. I'm not saying it can't be improved on, I'm saying that if it's illegal, ain't no one informed the Police!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:I am wondering if people saying it's illegal to have a tank laying down have actually seen a law, or are going off the recommendations of their lws as the law?

Reply:Well, as for the legality of transporting a cylinder in a horizontal position, it seems as though a few people already tried to hash this out on here a while back.See this thread: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=95211It's a quick read (only three posts, total). The short of it is that it's legal according to DOT regulations, so you're fine going down the highway, but it's illegal while on a job site according to OSHA regulations. So, there's the possibility of getting fined if OSHA were to get involved.

Reply:Seems to me, you ought to mount them upside down. I don't know how the gas is going to get out the hole in the top any other way. On the side is good, but only if the trailer is pointing down-hill.YOU'RE WELCOME!Everlast PA160-STH... and that's about it!

Reply:Originally Posted by OldSchoolPSDYou are missing the point.  It is not illegal to lay down your oxygen bottles because they are not classified as a flammable gas.  The DOT classifies oxygen as an oxidizer, and there is no rule that says oxidizers have to be vertical.
Reply:Just had a Maryland DOT safety audit and this is what they told me in regards to the cylinders.1)Any cylinder that is being transported has to be secured  properly regardless if they are standing up or laying down, flammables must be in the upright position, no exceptions.2)Oxygen can be laid down but must be in a secure rack, straps only don't cut. If it is on the vehicle for use .They frown upon more than 2, anymore they prefer you stand them up.3) All cylinders that are transported as a commodity such as your local LWS truck must be in the upright position at all times and marked with placards.4) I carry 2 large oxy 1 acetylene and must carry material safety data sheets for each one and do not require placards.5) Any aerosol product must have a MSDS sheet also.Maryland follows the FMCSA guidelines and these are their regulations on cylinder transporting,  the officer said that some states may vary on regulations  so always be safe and check with your local DOT.Last edited by kartman; 08-20-2013 at 12:06 PM.
