I wanted to make a lock for my garage door, but the store bought ones are just too whimpy. I had some 1/4 4" x 6" square left over from a swing set I made, so I cut it up for the lock housing. The round bar is 3/4" steel and moves smoothly through the lock, however, the tolerances are too tight for any paint to stay on it.We use it to lock the garage door, when we are out (the garage door opener is broken). Reply:The actual padlock is the weak link, but like most locks, it (padlock) is really designed to keep an honest man out. Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal
Reply:Unless your rollup door is the only access can't you lock it from the inside?                                                           MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:I agree with the others, good job on the lock but not much more effective then the one you could of bought.  You want a theft deterrent, put a Doberman or pitbull in the garage you won't even need to lock the doors.

Reply:First, I like the latch, it looks nice.Second, not to sound like a criminal but over the years of working in the shop and out of necessity I have learned to pick some basic locks, I can tell you right now if I was on my game I could pick that master lock in about 5 seconds with homemade picks.  My buddy forgot his key for his boat trailer hitch one day at my shop and I showed him, he about pissed himself lol.

Reply:One time at work, my son had to get some Inconel filler out of a locked cabinet.  The storekeeper was gone and no one knew where the spare key was located.  Didn't take him long to make a pick and get the filler he needed for the day's work."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:for my money. and my investment, my large shop doors (Barn style) are locked up with chains on the inside that go through I bolts in the frame of the door and pins that go into the lower frame to prevent it from being tipped out. Not that I really need it. My in-laws live across the street and have a perfect view of these doors. and are always there. To get in the man door I've got two dogs and a monitor in the room closest to the shop so not only would they be making a racket, but the dogs would be going insain too.  I need to make a heavier duty lock for the man door, but for now I think I'm good. the crooks around here look for the easy targets. Reply:In high school everyone had a gym locker with a combination master lock which had a master key the teacher had.  It was amazing how much stuff came up missing from locked lockers.  I've watched a tall metal trash can come down on a lock hard enough to pop it open, locker checked to see if someone's stuff was in it and lock put back on like it never  happened.  I got tired of it and put a big shielded combo lock on mine and the friggin janitor cut it off apparently.

Reply:If you want to stop picking or bumping you can go to a good padlock like a medeco
Reply:The whole idea is just to make your garage/home/car look more difficult to break into than that of your neighbors..  most burglaries are fuelled by drug addiction and a need for something to sell/pawn/trade to get their next high!Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
