Wanted to have a really solid table after using quarter inch plate across steel saw horses.Started with 3" channel for the top and wanted 3" legs. Got some of it together and realized i wouldn't be able to turn it upright or move it around the garage or have it easily disassembled after death (long view) or moving to new location. Needed wheels. Needed to be modular and easily disassembled by one person without a hoist or backhoe or crane. Saw some trailer hitch material at the supplier I was using. I bought the plate 1/4 x 28" x 60". This was about 85# each. Several pieces for a top and a bottom shelf for junk. So I made the upright corners first with tacks so i could bang them around during assembly. Welded on metal wheels to each corner. Drilled and tapped holes to lock in cross members. Assembled, banged cussed. Everything pretty square tig welded everything in position. My wife couldn't budge it even on wheels. Moved from over the tornado hole. It was overkill as usual. But i like it.
Reply:In these pics all the welds are not complete. Ultimately every corner was completely welded.Steve
Reply:Question: If you want to continue with your own thread do you reply to it yourself or do something else? Thanks
Reply:Yeah. Just reply back to your own thread. Only start a new one of you are starting a new topic.Everlast PA160-STH... and that's about it!
Reply:That's a good sized table, does it have support for the top plates? How do you clamp to the middle of the table when you need to? If you add a couple of bars 1/2 way between the top and the feet, you can hang your clamps and grinders from it. Add a shelf and electrical outlet for convenience sake. How do you keep from rolling around while you work, will you be adding levelers. too? Is that top 1/4"? So many questions, so little time. Nice table. When a welder tells you to "stick it", what do they really mean?"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell
Reply:Oh and nice table.Everlast PA160-STH... and that's about it!
Reply:thanks guys. The wheels have locks. And i did use your half inch bar idea to hang clamps. I need to add a junction box like you said and post some updated pics. There is 2 inch angle iron under each seam across the the middle of the table top and bottom.steve
Reply:the plates are 1/4 inch. 3/8 was too heavy for me to lift and move easily. It's so heavy now its hard to move.Steve |
