Reply:I can't speak for Kohler, but I certainly can for Honda. I've got a little Honda powered generator, that was left to me by my father. He bought it around 81-82. We've done nothing to it except routine maintence and a pull start rope replacement. It starts EVERYTIME I've needed it to. It sits for sometimes 6 months to a year between cranks, and still performs well. This was my first experience with Honda and has certainly lead me to more Honda purchases.
Reply:This isn't much help, but that Ranger has a Kohler 13somethin' horse motor in it, and it seems to do good.  But it's only a year and a half old.  Have run it continuoulsy as a generator with no problems so far."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I was looking at the same compressors a couple of years ago.  I was going to get the Kohler, because I already had a Kohler-powered welder, but I would not have been afraid to get a Honda by any means.  I don't think you can go wrong with either.  Do they deliver the same CFM?
Reply:Aside from the motor, whadya bet the tank and compressor block's made in China???  Oh well"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:On job sites, almost every piece af gas powered equipment tends to be a Honda. Mixers, compactors, compressors, if its a 4cycle engine I'll bet 90% or more are Hondas. I've seen our trash pump sit 2+ years and still fire up on the first one or two pulls. Same thing with our compresor and mixer. Never used a Kohler but with the exp I've had with Hondas you'd have to give me the Kohler to get me to use it.
Reply:When I worked concrete everything we had was Kolher powered. Tough little engines. NAPPA has every filter known to man.A butterfly without wings, is just an ugly bug
Reply:Both are top of the line engines (at least the best you'll find in this type equipment), from what I've seen the Honda might use a little less gas.Last edited by Greyhorse; 02-05-2009 at 11:32 PM.HH 187Miller Bluestar1EAHP AlphaTig 200X
Reply:I don't think you could go wrong either way.. My Trail Blazer is powered by a 20HP Kohler and my Air Compressor is powered by a 13HP Honda, both start right up and both run well.. When I bought them, used, they were both sitting for 2 years with out being started.. Nither had gas in the and both had the spark plugs pulled and oil added to the cylinders before they were stored.. When I went to pick them up for the guy I bought them from we pulled the plugs agin, added a little oil and cranked them slowly, put the puls back and added fresh gas.. They both fired up right away and ran perfect! I changed the oil and filters, plugs and been running them both hard ever since with out any problems.. So in my opion, you can't go wrong either way.. Do you have a gas driven welder like a Trail Blazer or something else that runs a Kohler engine, if you do then go with the Kohler, I think air and oil filters might be the same..Just my .02JasonMiller 252Miller 250Miller Syncrowave 250Esab Plasma Powercut 1250HF Basic oxy/act torches
Reply:Buying new and having the choice I'd go for the US made Kohler although the Honda is top quality as well as Greyhorse pointed out.Their a little pricy but TSC has a complete selection of Kohler service items but NAPA (Magnetic Mechanic), Auto Zone, Advance Auto, O'Reilly's, etc can set you up too.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:I used to work for Honda in Ohio.  You might be surprised, but a lot of that Honda small engine stuff is built in the Carolinas; from locally sourced parts.I can't swear that the engine in question here is; but I know a lot of their snowblower and lawnmowers are built here in the USA.Either way, I don't think you could go wrong... Reply:I use a very old (1973 model) Wayne 30 gallon gas powered air compressor on my truck that has a Kohler engine.  I think it's 11hp.  Anyways, the engine and compressor pump are both still running strong after some 35 years of use.  Amazing.  Pump puts out plenty of air for the plasma cutter, air tools, multiple sanders running at same and anything else I've needed it for.   Fills the 30 gallon tank to 175 psi in a very short time too.I also wanted to buy the Trailblazer Air Pak when I first saw it.  But... not at that rediculus price!  I will keep my old compressor and Bobcat instead.  I am happy with both of them.   While it would be nice to free up some space in the back of the truck and save some weight by replacing both units with the Air Pak, no way I could ever justify the cost at that price.   That is just waaaayyyy tooooo much $$$.  Last edited by DesertRider33; 02-07-2009 at 02:29 AM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I don't know about Kohler, but if minimally maintained the Honda will probably outlive all of us.I have several Honda powered pieces of equipement.  My generator is 15-20 years old and was used as a camp generator during hunting season (the grandparents liked the added convenience ).  It, like my other Hondas, still start on the first pull. My Honda engine on my pressure washer was Made in the U.S.A.
