So, with my MIG skills improving, and my Jeeps exhaust taking even more of a beating, I am looking to replace a few sections, and ditch the glasspack in favor of a magnaflow/flowmaster.Since rust is of a minimal concern, can I expect proper fusion splicing in a stainless muffler to standard exhaust tube using ER70S-6 and C25? Or do I need to step up to a stainless wire w/appropriate gas?By the time anything rusts out, I'll probably be dead, just concerned with fusion(or any strange electrolytic reactions)
Reply:its gonna be a brittle weld that will likely crack from the vibrations, If our going to weld stainless to mild use 309L filler, its made for welding stainless to mild. Not that nobody has done what your wanting to do before and had it work. It can work it just wont last as long as it could.
Reply:C25 works with 309L?Maybe I'll just stick with a non stainless muffler.

Reply:I have welded aluminized exhaust tube to every manufacturer of stainless muffler and tip that you can name with er70s and c25 and never had a failure ever over the last 20 years. The weld haz is the first place to rust but if your not in the rust belt the vehicle will likely be long gone before failure. |
