Mail box post got bent. I know. I know. Ya just straighten it, right? Where's the fun in that? I took it as an opportunity to make another guy and put him to work, pushing on it... Reply:Well, you could just straighten it, or you could REINFORCE it...http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=35209The little helper is a creative approachHobbyist - At what point is a "hobby" out-of-control?
Reply:Now that is a GREAT idea!!! I love it. I wish I had the creative mind it takes to think of this stuff.
Reply:Looks like he's bending it over vs straightening it up, that or trying to steal it to me. .No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I like this piece the best of your work. I don't know how long he would last by me. I would drive in a piece of  pipe down 3 ' , have a hole cut in base plate for pipe, and then weld solid. Someone would definitely try to relocate him.

Reply:There was a story about a kid somewhere that put a M80 in a mail box made of 1/8 or 1/4". The story goes the truck they were in stalled and the M80 went off before they could leave the scene. The door of the mail box killed or severely injured one of the kids and they were able to sue the owner of the mailbox. At my last house I had a 3' cement ring around the 10" steel pipe that was buried at least 3' in the ground and filled with cement of which the mail box sat on top.Now at my current house I just have a simple 4x4" wood post for my mail box. No problems yet after 10 years here.

Reply:Originally Posted by k45Just went through that problem (again) here.   Two mail boxes stolen in a month.  So I built my own out of 1/8" scrap, 4" lag screws to a 8" wood post, set 3' deep.   They pulled that out but it was too heavy to steal, so they dumped it in the creek.  (At least it didn't go far!)   I needed the winch to retrieve it.  Now it is screwed between the 8" post and a 12" section of electric pole, both concreted in.   Maybe this one will stay!   This was not designed to be pretty or attractive, just functional and bullet proof. I even considered not painting it, just leaving the rusty metal. Yeah, I know, it's just a bigger challenge to the vandals.

Reply:Gonna need a couple more little guys with an ambulance and maybe one more with a crane to pick the mail box back up.

Reply:I believe when that close to road a bright colored vest is required to be worn by your guy.      Hope the kid don't sue.

Reply:My best guess is that he could use a combat helmet instead of a ball cap. I hope the tide box wasn't too expensive.City of L.A.
