to obtain a freggin owner's manual?  Century wants $8.00 for one and even then the web site states "within 24 hours".  Do they not know that each of us has a given amount of time on this planet before we expire?  And we each have goals we'd like to reach before doing so?  They have stated plainly that their goal is to obtain $8.  So if I give them what they want....and it will be withdrawn from my banking account immediately....rest assured....why when we all know that the executive piece of garbage took off this week and next...i cannot move forward with my life.  In addition, there are some fellow Americans who have this very document and refuse to share it for what ever reason.....I suppose because they get part of the $8?Power-Mate 40/20 Plasma Cuting System 118-004Century, Powermate, Dayton, Snap-on: 2040, 4020, 5Z031, YA2001

Reply:It's not hard.   It's just worth more to them than it is to you.If it's paper, how much does it cost to have someone print it out, address and envelope and mail it?   How much does it cost to keep that web server running 24 hours a day for years just waiting for someone to ask for a manual?   How much did they have to pay a webmaster to create that web page and the software that takes your order? It sounds like they are selling it to you at somewhere around cost. Now ask yourself... Why is it so hard to keep the owners manual that is so rare and valuable?Dan----------------------------Measure twice.  Weld once.  Grind to size.MIG:  Lincoln SP100 TIG/STICK:  AHP Alphatig 200X

Reply:I'm not going to quote one person here, I'm just going to make some general statements.I was asked why I'm complaining to a bunch of strangers.  Answer: i do not believe we are strangers.  We are fellow Americans and are friends by default.  We have more in common than not.  We may not be best friends, but we're certainly not enemies.  That leaves one thing...friends.One individual stated they would not waste their money on a Century.  Well, there's nothing wrong with that.  However the implication is that I did.  I didn't.  A friend bought three of these machines and two Miller Arc welders at auction.  I suspect he did not pay much but I didn't ask.  He asked for help to get them working so that me might sell them at a reasonable rate and then be able to feed his family.  Given I will and have put in time and labor and now effort explaining to other adults the pitfalls of making assumptions, I will also use monies earned to fulfill my obligations as a male, as a father and as a husband and a fellow US citizen.Another individual makes the assumption that i did not keep a manual.  See above.  As a 15 year software veteran and cum laude graduate with a degree in computer information systems, I am well aware of the reasoning behind charging $8 and how that amount relates to the cost of making it available.  I am also aware that if that functionality is made available, there is no need for it to take 24 hours to fulfill the order.  I am also aware there may be technical difficulties which delay the delivery of one's electronic document purchase and therefore the 24 hours is used to keep people from bitching and complaining while they fix the issue.  If that's the case, then state so.  "Normally documents are delivered immediately or access is granted immediately, but in the case of a rare technical difficulty..etc...."
Reply:Did your tree run off and leave you? You seemingly are looking for arguments/turmoil/conflict where none need to exist. I'm quite comfortable stating we really don't need that. Reply:Very simple, lawyers and the US injustice system is destroying America.    Trace everything back to the roots and you find lawyers manipulating everything on behalf of corporations using politicians as the vehicle.   I have said to several people recently that North Korea didn't defeat our first amendment, lawyers did.   Sony and the theaters cancelled the showing because if any injuries occurred or violence, they knew lawyers would sue them and it would cost millions in legal fees even if not found guilty.  It happened with the Aurora Batman shooting.    So American lawyers defeated the 1st amendmentAlso the previous thread I was referring to was nothing to do with you.  Things don't always get interpreted the way you intend on the Internet.   I do find it funny that you were actually on a HOA board though,  no hard feelings.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Thank you Andrew for your post, that was on point. I however think this fool is not the kind to admit he has it good. He will come back and try to one up you. He will probably try to retell the story of Job (of the bible) with him in Job's place. I digress. Boy, buy you a real welder either red, blue, or yellow and the manual will come with the machine.
Reply:I clicked on this thread because I thought the subject was going to be about the hardness of certain alloys, etc.  Or maybe about a certain metal that was supposed to be softer than it turned out to be.  But shucks, I kept reading on and got sucked in anyway.  Yup, I'll never get these four minutes of my life back, gone forever!
Reply:Auser manual is not going to do much for you, unless you don't know how to weld. You could read a manual for just about any welder and it would tell you the same basic info. Why don't you just quit the complaining and tell us what you don't understand about the welder and you will likely get what you are looking for, unless you have already driven away the help.
Reply:Manual for my welder contains a wiring schematic.  I figured I'd start there.  I hate asking for help for the reasons above.  That's why I know a little about alot of things.  People come to me everyday to fix their problems whether it be to repair a hard good or to analyze a decision making process.  That is my damage.  When asked a question, I will find the answer.  If one comes back and says they found the answer, its too late.  All they've done is change my quest into a verification mission.  Anywho lets see how this goes.  The plasma cutter has some contacts, so I presume its an older model.  When activating the cutter, little sparks come out the end and that's about it.  Given there are three of these machines here, I have taken the best of all the contacts and created a complete set of the best and they are installed.  Same result.  Little sparks.

Reply:Like the above poster on his Daughters illness (in which I'm truly sorry) - Some of us are living daily with 'real' problems that we have reason to feel mad about or to grumble about, But know better than to just complain. But after you have seen what we have seen and have gone down the road or the years that many of us have.. I guess you won't understand. But I tell you what- We know what 'real' issues are and we know life isn't always a bowl of cherry's so suck it up and be thankful. Right from the heading you approached this with wrong attitude. Better to say: Am I wrong or not realistic to think that...takes this long? - This site and the experience here is not to be taken lightly- Don't waste it because it is a privilege to have many 'experienced' welders here willing to give rock solid advice 'free'. By the way.. I have not complained not once on my Wife's 14 year fight with Cancer (2x breast 1x lungs, I x lymphnodes, now in the final stages of terminal multipule brain cancer. I'm losing her after 40 years of marriage.. But I choose to Thank God for the 40 years of marriage together instead. You my friend (we are friends right..) need to get your act together and realize $8 and 24hr service is rarely that good. You also need to heed what has been said here by us.
Reply:As to manual prices...I remember plenty at a around $100.00 That was ho-hum.$200.00 mighta  raised an eyebrow. Seems like $350.00 got a little scrutiny once. And that was back when a dollar was a ...well, 60 cents, I guess. But still the manual costs  were a  bargain compared to playing blind-man's-bluff with repair work. But $8 today? At that I'd say they're more or less paying folks to buy 'em.

Reply:Now let there be help.  The first plasma cutter I believe the issue is no rectifying to DC.  There are two switches.  One is labeled 'Ready' and when flipped "ON" the machines comes alive, the orange light illuminates and the fan starts.  The second switch is labeled 'DC Power'.  When flipped from '"SETUP" to "RUN" the red light does not illuminate and the machine does not arc.  Of course compressed air is connected.  The air solenoid is working.  There are two red lights on the circuit board.  When the 'READY' switch is 'ON' one of the lights illuminate.  When the 'DC Power' switch is in the "RUN" position the other redlight blinks when button on torch is depressed.I'm going to start by checking the diodes on the rectifier bridge.Oh, on the torch end both the negative and the torch lead have continuity back to the unit.
