Been researching quite awhile on plasma cutters and have about decided on this one. I figure unless you want to lay out some serious $$$ to cut 1/4" + as fast as O/A  this is the one for me. I'm not figuring this for a business. Anyone had any bad experience w/ this one?? I'll appreciate any input.                     Thanks,                                MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:Mike,Go to your local welding supply store and take a look at the Hypertherm Powermax30. It will outperform the 39 in cut speed and thickness....operates off either 120 or 240 volts (just plug it into either voltage....it automatically detects). The Hypertherm unit often is a few dollars more....but the real advantage is that the consumable parts last dramatically longer than the other brands systems. The Hypertherm unit is designed and manufactured in Hanover, NH, USA!Ask a few other users on this site of their experiences with Hypertherm units before you buy other brands!Jim Colt
Reply:While the CutMaster is a VERY Good unit for the price I would haveto agree with Jim on this one. Of course your choice has much to do with what you plan to use the unit for, what materials you'll be cutting., as well as the overall life cycle costs of the unit. Althought some of those other units perform VERY well at a reasonable purchase you also need to look at your overall cost of purchase and lifetime operation of the unit. What seems like a good initial purchase can add up to a very expensive overall costs in maintence, consumeables, etc.Examine all your factors when chosing to purchase equipment.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:Thanks to both of you for the headsup on the hypertherm 30. I'll seriously check into it. I guess I didn't notice it cuts faster than the 39. I'll be cutting mostly thin stuff for ornamentals. As I said anything over 1/4" will probably be done w/ O/A unless the plas will do it faster.                           MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:The Hypertherm Powermax 30 will sever 1/2"....it's not the machine you want if that's what you spend all of your time on....but it sure can do it when needed! Jim
Reply:I recently bought a powermax 30 and i am very pleased with it. i still have the original set of consumables on it and i have done quite a bit of cutting with it.  You will not be disappointed...........RichLincoln 255XT Power Mig                                                                    Lincoln Precision Tig 225Hypertherm Powermax 30
Reply:Well I second that on the Hypertherm PowerMax lineup. Right out of the box they do what you ask of them.No matter what brand you decide to go with search around not only for the best price but a company that has available customer service, and parts and service. Oh yeah and  ease of setup & operation.Do a keyword search on your favorite search engine for the sellers of that brand name. There are plenty of online welding companies with Great Prices and Service.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:Thanks to everyone for your input. I think you've sold me on the hypertherm. I checked w/ the LWS and they have them for $1152 and they carry the consumables. I'll shop around the net to what kind of price I can find.                           MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:Mike,PowerMax 30 - good machine.  Runs on 120V or 240V (plus compressed air/gas).  For sheetmetal, I turn the machine waaay down (about halfway) and it still cuts as fast as you can follow the cut/mark line.  It's FAST.    The manual say 394 ipm cut speed on 18 gauge steel at 30 amps (full power).  I know I can't move the torch that fast!On 1/4 inch steel, it's still pretty darn fast (but there I turn the power UP  )  Not as fast as sheetmetal, but still nearly as fast as you can follow the line.  The manual says at 30 amps output (full power), the cut speed on 1/4 inch steel is 33 ipm.The manual says 15 ipm on 3/8 inch steel at 30 amps power.  And Jim says he's severed 1/2 inch steel with it.PowerMax 45 - even more power!  I'm happy with my Hypertherm.    The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
