I have a bunch of gas welding rods that were given to me, but I don't know how to identify them. Some appear to be aluminum. Some are flux coated brazing rods. There are also some "bare copper looking" rods. I have almost used up all the brazing rods and am wondering if some of the copper looking ones are "uncoated" brazing rods? Would appreciate hearing of some methods of identifying the uncoated rods.
Reply:the coppery ones are probably steel gas welding rod,RG 45? http://airgas.com/browse/productDeta...ct=RAD64001670SqWave 200Millermatic 190Airco 200 ACHypertherm PM45Boice-Crane Band SawVictor O/A
Reply:if you use a little flux you can weld aluminum as well.http://www.tinmantech.com/html/alumi...g_supplies.phpSqWave 200Millermatic 190Airco 200 ACHypertherm PM45Boice-Crane Band SawVictor O/A
Reply:Tks for info on AL. Will try it. Yes, the coppery ones are steel. I played around with them a bit and ran a few beads on some sheet steel.
Reply:Are they stamped?RG45 or 60 is for oxy/acetylene70S2 is for tig
Reply:Shave them with a knife, that should tell you what they are roughly
Reply:This may be a little late in this thread, but....A simple way to find the steel electrodes/rods(?) is with a magnet. That way the coating, if any, won't cornfuse anyone.
Reply:only the stamp will tell you if it's ER70-S2/6 or RG45/60.+1 magnetSqWave 200Millermatic 190Airco 200 ACHypertherm PM45Boice-Crane Band SawVictor O/A |
