So I am in the process of trying to figure out what kind of table I need/want and I came across this Modular Rollover Fixture from Bluco.Realizing that anything from Bluco would require a 2nd mortgage on my house, I did some research and I think I could build something very similar using 4" x 3/8" sq. tubing. The corners of the tubing would be rounded over unless I welded together pieces of 3/8" x 4" plate and then spent the rest of my life grinding and sanding it flat and square. What do you guys think about something like this, but with rounded corners?Originally I had decided to build a "C" channel table like this:www.practicalmachinist.comThat could fold up like this:Folding TIG TableThe reason for the folding is because I am working out of my shared garage and everything has to take up as little space as possible, and be able to move out of the way. As far as use goes I am looking for something that is pretty general purpose and isn't going to fold up on me if I have to use a hammer on it. So far I have been building projects out of 11ga tubing and like it. I can see myself moving to thicker material and pipe eventually, though I doubt I will get into the structural sizes i.e. 1" plate or 6" pipe, so that is a consideration. Cost is also a factor which is why I am building my own table. I generally try to follow the KISS rule, but this has to be a little more complicated because of all the factors that need to be met.So what do you fellas think? Modular Rollover or "C" Channel? Any other ideas or things I'm not thinking about? Thanks in advance for the help.Brian
Reply:That rollover "table?" is cool. But the only way I see it being useful is if you are building ALOT of the same thing VERY quickly (i.e. production welding). I would go with the C channel table. I have one at work that I use everyday and for one offs it is great. If you do need to jig something up for repeated fitment, bit of angle and flat bar can always be tacked to the table. It IS a welding table after all. That is what it is for. If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck is empty."-Grandad circa 1990ish
Reply:you're trying to get to much out of one thing. you can get a folding table, or a roll over table. but to get both you're talking about some serious dismantling which eliminates the KISS method and the easy of use factor. it also adds to the cost because the more components you need the more expensive it's going to be. It would be pretty simple to make a folding/rolling table using the Channel top, but to make it rotating aswell will be difficult to say the least. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:THAT is called a rotisserie. It can has been made from a differential or transaxle.
Reply:We use Bluco stuff at work. It is incredible for production AND one off stuff. It's literally a lego set and it's accurate to .5mm minimum over any distance. I'm entirely convinced that nothing better can even exist. My table is a 1x2 meter with the double density hole pattern.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
