THANKS to all the posts on this site about tables and comments, etc!!!! Am building a welding table very similar to the one in this link, http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...-welding-table (thanks to edmac) , only going to make it adjustable using 4" 3/16 and 3 1/2" 3/16", one leg inside the other, (I built and designed, and had engineered an overhead adjustable crane with the same concept)and make it adjustable with hydraulic or screw jacks of some kind. Since I am short 5'7" my table height is 30-35"......but need to make it higher at times....therefore design it to give me another foot or so. QUESTION.....or comments.....do you think this above concept would work as adjustable?????/ Many thanks!!!!Miller Big Blue Air PakMiller 350P, Python GunHyperthermsSpool gunsMetabo GrindersWe "dooit" as a family...."a family that sleds together stays together"......from sleddin to campin to 4 wheelin to workin.....gotta enjoy life somewhere!
Reply:The link does not work. You left out some of the characters and numbers. You have to use ALL of them to get a functioning link. It appears you substituted some of them with dots.
Reply:Here is the correct link  sorry.....http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread...=welding+tablehttp://weldingweb.com/attachment.php...1&d=1357433662pix by ed mac     table design by him as well...thanksLast edited by wedooit; 09-18-2013 at 10:36 PM.Miller Big Blue Air PakMiller 350P, Python GunHyperthermsSpool gunsMetabo GrindersWe "dooit" as a family...."a family that sleds together stays together"......from sleddin to campin to 4 wheelin to workin.....gotta enjoy life somewhere!
Reply:Out of curiosity, why do you need it so tall? I'm 5'11 and I have real issues with the saw horses my old boss built that are  38" tall. ( he was 6'-7" tall) Even standing, reaching anything more than a foot or so off the edge is a real pain. 30" is the highest I usually find comfortable to work at if the table is of any width past say 2'-3'. As soon as I put something on it I almost need a ladder to reach it, or I'm climbing on it to reach the center. 42"- 48" in height would be almost impossible for me to use except as scaffolding. Reply:My thoughts on adjustable legs on a welding table...  Hydraulic jacks are nice, could be easy to operate.  Screw jacks don't weep oil and won't let you down when you least expect it.  If the legs are tubular with the screws inside the screws will stay clean and lubed almost forever, too.  Both have challenges in arranging the operating mechanisms.- MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:Take a look at this thread. Graniteguy did some drawings showing a number of ways to raise and lower a table.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...-welding-table
Reply:You might also look into old jacks from tractor trailer boxes and use them complete for the legs. They can usually be set up in pairs for adjustment. Adjust one side, then crank up the 2nd side and so on until you get the height you want..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Many thanks!!!!  thanks for the links!!!!!  Thanks for the advice on height settings....!!!!At times we need a higher table to set trailer frames on....etc.....sometimes it is nice to weld at a higher setting. Many thanks again!!!Miller Big Blue Air PakMiller 350P, Python GunHyperthermsSpool gunsMetabo GrindersWe "dooit" as a family...."a family that sleds together stays together"......from sleddin to campin to 4 wheelin to workin.....gotta enjoy life somewhere!
