Reply:I've seen horizontal milling add-on arbors for Bridgeport style vertical mills, but never seen anything for converting a horizontal mill to a vertical mill"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I have seen several vert heads mounted on horizontals in different ways.Making an adapter for the upper to mount a J-head or similar isn't unusual. Rigidity can be an issue. There are also adapters that bolt right onto the drive, simple ones have single bevel gear sets on them, the more complex have several gear selections. Misal used to make one for their mills, and did cincinnati (http://www.lathes.co.uk/cincinnati/page7.html)Last edited by enlpck; 03-29-2009 at 09:45 AM.Reason: added link
Reply:What size of horizontal mill are you talking about?, a Bridgeport M head adapted to a floor standing horizontal mill is a rather common occurrence. If you talking about a bench size horizontal mill like a Burke or an Atlas, there were after market vertical heads, but are rare and expensive. I made a vertical head for my Atlas, that uses MT#2 collets, because most of the heads available were either priced out the realm of reality or needed a complete rebuild.jack
Reply:This is a big type of mill. Damn thing weighs around 3000 lb. Anyway, i have looked for a manf name and numbers everywhere, but there is nothing on the mill.I will take a picture and post it. ThanksAaron
Reply:Hard to say without knowing the mfg, Lots of mills have universal head attachments available. How about a picture?A butterfly without wings, is just an ugly bug |
