lemme know how I didso basically this is a horizontal fillet on 1/2in bar, I used my TA welder set at 116 amps, dig on 4, I did 3 passes with 1/8in 7018 H4 or whatever numbers are at the end, don't remember, this is my first attempt at a multipass stick weld, haven't don't a whole lot of stick welding that's a quarter in the picture for size comparison. now that the welding is done and im typing this I realized that I should have run the stringers in opposite directions correct? I did flip the bar over and ran the other side right handed lol, no bueno. it was ok I just had a hard time getting the arc to start and had a lil  trouble keeping it straight lined when I was doing a fill pass, a lot easier to run the root straight in the corner ya know anyway judge me critique me. thanksMiller Syncrowave 210 w/CK FlexLoc 150  3/6/14ESAB PCM 1125 Plasma CutterAtlas 12x36 LatheACER 9x42 3hp millHarig 612 Surface GrinderDRINK Machine              welding&fabrication
Reply:Gently push/weave the rod to fill the undercut up against the plate, or slow down a bit to allow the metal to fill the undercut.  Otherwise it looks pretty good"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:First pass looks a little cold and lumpy. Second looks like the toes of the weld tied in better but still a little lumpy at the start. Third looks good, all that said my opinion is basedoff what i can see with my cell phone screen.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:On a weld like that with 1/8 7018 rod, I will run 125-130 ish amps. Your first and third passes have way too much undercut on the top edge of the bead. Slow down and use a shorter arc to help prevent the undercut to the top plate. You may have to adjust your rod angle a bit also.Last edited by snoeproe; 06-04-2013 at 02:49 PM.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:I tried a weave with a 3/32 7018 and the bead was huge lol and I noticed when I did that my pauses were very identifiable I think I dragged to far in front of each pause, but i wondered how to get rid of the undercut thanks for the tips, I was holding a pretty tight arc, but I was able to see the arc and puddle, I didn't have the rod tip buried in the joint, thanks for the inputMiller Syncrowave 210 w/CK FlexLoc 150  3/6/14ESAB PCM 1125 Plasma CutterAtlas 12x36 LatheACER 9x42 3hp millHarig 612 Surface GrinderDRINK Machine              welding&fabrication
Reply:You can make a beautiful weave with a 3/32 7018. Keep the weave pattern tight, whichever position you're in... and maybe 80-85 amps for 3/32. Slow down your travel speed to fill in the undercut.I guess it was already said. Doesn't look too bad besides that.
