Say you guys run into a gap in a fishmouth where the pipe is welded to another what is the best way to deal with it without the arc going crazy and blowing away the edge?ThermalArc 181i | Lotos WS200
Reply:when I get to gaps due to my sucky fit-up's, I use the laywire technique, except I continuously keep feeding the gap/keyhole aggressively to fill the gap as I slide the torch along. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:What Oscar said works. If you want to dip you need to back down the amps a little and keep the arc more on the solid piece (not the edge). Just have to watch the edge so it doesn't fingernail back too much.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:I helped a guy ONCE. All I had to do was tig he did all the leg work and his fit ups were horrible. What I would do was use the proper filler for the good tight spots and up my filler size for HIS screw ups. It was a mess I was constantly telling him no gaps no gaps and he would just say just use the big rod. That didn't last long.
