I just ordered a gold lens and was wanting to learn more about how they work and what they are good for. A class mate and instructor pointed me to a gold lens .... for better vision?

Reply:If I remember correctly the main purpose of the gold coating is to reflect radiant heat away from your eyes creating less heat build up in your hood. The filter lense filters out everything in normal fashion.Ranger 250 thick stuffHobart Handler 140 not thick stuffthe pane and oxy setup
Reply:You don't get the green tint link you do with standard green lenses. You get more of the colors and better clarity. Just stay away from'Weldmark brand as sometimes the gold is put on poorly and you will see orange. Reply:The gold coating reflects IR and also bounces light back at the weld. This is helpful for seeing the edges of a bevel since the arclight might normally not directly light up anything outside of the bevel.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
