Reply:Well I went through the same thing for a few weeks but came to the conclusion that the brand name units that are made in  the U.S. are a better deal hands down even if their double the cost.   The electrodes and nozzles are the best on the market on the Hypertherm and others are trying to compete with their patent torch design. The imports sell consumables by the pound bag pretty much, and the Hypertherm 30 comes with an assembled torch and 1 electrode and 1 nozzle that's all you'll need for a while as they are made to last not melt.  also look at Hypertherm's  consumable kit for the 30 it only has 7 electrodes and 7 nozzles and 1 each of other items they just are that much better I have cut about 150' painted roofing tin and dragged the nozzle on the tin as others you have to maintain  a gap.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=29041&page=4  the tin cuts. and I gouged a bed frame also severed a 1 1/4" torsion bar from an old car on 110 worked so good didn't even plug it in to the 220 so the Hypertherm consumables are still cutting fine lines in the tin and look pretty good considering I doubled the cut capacity of the machine didn't look pretty but it chewed through it.so considering the imports are giving out bags of consumables for nice posts and entering to win for lying about owning Longevity stuff I wonder how many out here actually happily own the imported stuff that have test drove a big brand  Hmmmmmmmm .   I wanted peace of mind to sleep at night and have parts and consumables available. I bought American and helped save our economy, and Hypertherm doesn't test anything after it's built once it leaves their Quality control line as mine had the only original tape on the box when I received it. that speaks volumes lots of people have imports but you can spend the money now on a more dependable researched for 40 years Hypertherm unit or a copy of something that has part # techs havent even seen before.made for production parts and from my own electronic repair background  you need a real technician to fix it when it does go not just a certified board switcher so the technician will cost double a new better unit when you figure in the pounds of consumables and all is an easy decision if you don't let the cost make the choice to tell you the truthLincoln 225 Tombstone,Miller Big 20,Hobart 180,150' Argon,A/D hobart hood 22 Ton Log splitter,79 F350 dump eats 4.75 TONS and still turns cutters, grinders,And a  Hypertherm POWERMAX 30
Reply:oh ya and a chop saw would do a cleaner faster job on repetitive cutting unless this is like part removal or something you cant bench... and have to cut out of position it's gonna take alot of practice and time  to cut a pipe true square with plasma by hand for fit up to weld.duuu never really answered your questionLincoln 225 Tombstone,Miller Big 20,Hobart 180,150' Argon,A/D hobart hood 22 Ton Log splitter,79 F350 dump eats 4.75 TONS and still turns cutters, grinders,And a  Hypertherm POWERMAX 30

Reply:ya I almost got one air gas liquidation sale 800.00 full warranty the 600 would be big for the roofing I cut and trailer repairs... if I could of run the 600 off a 100' extension cord without rewiring clients houses  I probably would of got it and then the part of having the newest torch technology and top of the line  world leader of plasma SOLD to Tony.... I  gritted my teeth till I got it now I can sleep knowing I made the right choice came with plug adapters for 110 plug adapter 220 adapter  and generator style plugs like wow portability in a 20# box woo hooook I'm done now LOLLincoln 225 Tombstone,Miller Big 20,Hobart 180,150' Argon,A/D hobart hood 22 Ton Log splitter,79 F350 dump eats 4.75 TONS and still turns cutters, grinders,And a  Hypertherm POWERMAX 30

Reply:rbmedic75 I have the Gianttech Cut 40D plasma cutter, and I love using it. Not a problem one with it. And as for the comment about the consumables not lasting.... well I haven't changed any thing on the torch as of yet, and have cut approximately 4hrs with this torch, stainless mild and high carbon steels and aluminum. If this is an indication of what to expect from the Cut 50D then there you have it.And GiantTech pre-tests his stuff so you don't get a DOA (dead on arrival) machine.Miller Thunderbolt 225Millermatic 130 XPLincoln HD 100 Forney C-5bt Arc welderPlasma Cutter Gianteach Cut40ACent Machinery Bandsaw Cent Machinery 16Speed Drill PressChicago Electric 130amp tig/90 ArcHobart 190 Mig spoolgun ready

Reply:the imports don't compare there was a thread on a test and the Hypertherm 45 AMP out performed a couple 60 AMP imports that says it all BUY AMERICAN AND YOU WILL HELP BUILD THE FUTURE FOR OUR KIDS AND REASSURE THEM JOBS  if not make some importer reseller money and his foreign buddies.... THEY WORK KIDS TO BUILD THAT STUFF!!!!  if you can live with that I supported child labor exploiters and think you got a good unit made for coin by the hour wages...go ahead and move over there and take it back where it belongs.  Now that's the bottom lineLincoln 225 Tombstone,Miller Big 20,Hobart 180,150' Argon,A/D hobart hood 22 Ton Log splitter,79 F350 dump eats 4.75 TONS and still turns cutters, grinders,And a  Hypertherm POWERMAX 30
Reply:I will vouch for the integrity of Larry at Giant Tech....he is in a whole different class compared to the other Chinese plasma importers. If you are looking for a budget plasma...probably not good for high production use but acceptable for hobbyists...then take a look at his products. The longer term issues may be related to problems you may have after warranty...getting parts and service...but that can likely be answered by Giant Tech. Comparing these units with major brands (Hypertherm) you will see better availability of parts and service, definitely longer consumable life, and generally the major brands will provide a performance edge (45 Amp major brand will generally cut faster and thicker than a 60 Amp import), and this all comes at a higher purchase price (which supports american workers!). For someone that relies on a plasma cutter for income or to get production out the door...it often is better to go with a major brand......for an occasional user with a tight budget (or wife!)...taking the chance on a low price import may be the only choice.Say Hi to Larry at Giantech......Jim Colt   Hypertherm
Reply:K   JIM you know the business better than I for sure... I wasn't aware of his outstanding service and exceptional class of units, I couldn't Google anything on it good or bad.  that's good he has some top shelf units there and he stands behind them that's what counts when someone needs assistance.   I'm glad there is another source of cheaper units other than the junk stores and the others that try to compare theirs to  brand name stuffLincoln 225 Tombstone,Miller Big 20,Hobart 180,150' Argon,A/D hobart hood 22 Ton Log splitter,79 F350 dump eats 4.75 TONS and still turns cutters, grinders,And a  Hypertherm POWERMAX 30
Reply:I hear they gotta new QC program over there now.The machines are tagged with numbers corresponding to the little dude that wired it.If the machine fails, they snuff the dudeIf the machine works, the dude gets a pay increase from 25cents to 31cents per hour.Great program from what I hear"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Tony, Giantechs units are essentially the same as the other Chinese imports. I'm just saying that the man has a lot more integrity....will follow up with his customers and will honor his commitments. They won't stack up against a Hypertherm in any kind of performance....but they certainly have a more affordable purchase price!Jim
Reply:Well rbmedic75 I cannot tell you much about Gianttechs' unit other  than Larry stands by his products and offers exceptional service. As for the Chinese plasma cutters!! Well all I can say is that I was the one doing the test of the 45 amp US unit against the 60 amp Chinese units. The US unit (Hypertherm outperformed the 60 amp units in cutting speed, quality of cut, kerf, and consumable life by as much as factor of 7 Chinese consumables to 1 US.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:ya that's good  ... because I talked to the other guys on the phone and basically told me their 40 was junk and the 50 pilot model had a much better torch ,then said but the 40 is a really good unit if that's all you wanna spend you'll be happy, what contradiction within the same sentence LOL he's like now what do you wanna hear to close this sale what a scam,  at least if he don't get out here and act like the other guys and sound like a quieted liar on the phone you can tell when someone is blowing smoke up your a$$, that was funny I almost laughed at the other guys before I hung up the phone .If he don't do what the others practice  "running their business into the dirt" he will have the best of  the Chinese market maybe someday out here in PC landLincoln 225 Tombstone,Miller Big 20,Hobart 180,150' Argon,A/D hobart hood 22 Ton Log splitter,79 F350 dump eats 4.75 TONS and still turns cutters, grinders,And a  Hypertherm POWERMAX 30
Reply:WOW on the consumables... Specter that test was  god send to me THANK YOU. I almost got one of the junkers till I saw the results of that test that sold me .      I've cut about 250' of  painted sheet metal with my powermax 30 on the same consumables and actually gouged an old torsion bar was 1 1/4"  chewed it in half on 110 power  at 20 amps some bed frame angle and junk and my  consumables are still cutting fine wire wheeled it a few times to make it look nice LOL  "I know I wore more copper off it lookin nice"  hey still cutting woot woot
