I have an opportunity to pick up a slightly used TD 38. Problem is that in researching, everyone says that Hypertherm is the plasma cutter to buy.My needs are dual voltage and ability to cut 3/8-1/2 in a non-commercial setting.I really don't want to spend $1500 on a plasma cutter and this TD 38 is only $500.Are the TD units really that inferior? I figure $500 is a pretty good deal on a machine that was only used twice, but I don't want to spend the money on a unit that eats consumables or will break down.My LWS carries TD, so obviously their opinion will be biased.(I had posted in the Arc/OA/Mig forum, but I realized that this was the proper place)
Reply:I don't think you will go wrong with any plasma cutter by Hypertherm, Thermal Dynamics or Miller. Kinda like choosing between Ford, Chevy and Dodge. Pick your favorite and go with it. $500 is a great price on that size plasma.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:For $500 you are a fool not to buy it. When it comes to plasma TD and Hypertherm are the top. I personally chose hypertherm for the reputation, and personal preference. However there is nothing wrong with the TD cutmaster. As DesertRider stated, it's a Ford/Chevy debate.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I was in the same boat as you not long ago!I wound up getting a Hypertherm PM600 that kind of fell in my lap at a price I couldn't turn down. Now if a TD had come along before the Hypertherm, such as you mention above, well by golly I would be using that one instead. So far I am happy with the PM600, it does everything I need it to do, I called their customer service and was impressed with their service, and handling of someone who only had questions about a used unitKen.#1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!
Reply:That sounds like a great price.....you should buy it. Oh, and I work for Hypertherm!Jim Colt

Reply:Actually forgot about this thread. I was just looking for a new air filter for my house. I think I will be going with a Motor Guard M26 or M30 and then putting the D13 right at the unit itself. And BTW James, I will take $100 for it, if you multiply it by 7 |
