hey all,For the next 10 days I shall be doing a pipe welding course starting tomorrow (24th) in Pembrokeshire, UK.Just set this thread up to post many pictures of my progress and maybe some of the pipe welders here can give me some hints and tips.Hopefully I can get my ASME IX out of it, it might be a bit ambitious to go from a plate welder to a pipe welder in 10 days, but it is 6 hours a day, plus I'm putting 100% of myself into this!Any and all comments welcome
Reply:Do these classes typically require previous experience, or could a novice welder jump in for example?
Reply:im told that no previous experience is required, they have taught people with no experience before with a good pass rate. but obviously the more welding experience you have the better. it is also an ongoing course, so you can start when you want/when they got a spare bay
Reply:I did my pipe boot camp at my own shop. A buddy of mine came over for the weekend and taught me. I did pre work before and got to where I could do a rolling 6" pup first, with 6010 root, hot, and cap. It was a tiring weekend, but very successful. I was able to do 6010 root, hot, fill and cap in any position, as well as 7018 cap in any position. Good luck on your boot camp, sound like fun.

Reply:5g is the vertical position. 2g is the horizontal, 1g is rolling pipe, and 6g is 45 degrees..i wish you luck, give it hell. learning to stick and tig pipe in 10 days isnt going to be easy to produce constant sound welds in all the positions. not saying it cant be done, but it will be hard..
Reply:yea it will be hard, but i am quite driven. tis all practice i guess. cant get any worse
Reply:Day 2got my root and fill looking nice, just wish the cap was as good!
