What are you suggestions.  I have a new job I am working at 2nd shift running a large saw, but one of the guys just got let go in the cnc shop and I want to get in there.  I would be running a Hoss overhead Mill just wondering what book would be better off getting first.  I have run cnc plasma tables and Water jets but never a CNC Mill.    Millermatic 251Miller Bobcat 225Lincoln 135Victor Oxy/FuelOlder Thermal Dynamics 50 amp (paid $700 with 10 sets of consumables)
Reply:It's a different ball game running a CNC vertical, as opposed to plasma or waterjet! If it's production type work, you would probably only have to change parts, and make a few offset changes. Nothing too major. The Machinery's Handbook won't help you run the machine. It will help you with technical information such as, speed & feed, mathematic formulas, trig functions, etc. If it's production work, everything is usually all setup, and programmed and all you will do is push buttons. You might be able to find a school that has CNC training and it will give you the basics. Good Luck!!!--------John
