A guy I purchased a few machines and tools from in the past couple of months contacted me the other day, and offered me a Luxcut lathe with a bunch of tooling for $1500.00.My questions are, has anyone here had any experience with this machine, is it a good machine, as in well built?Do you think this is a good price for it?The guy said its in top working condition, and I did glance it over the last time I was there at his shop, it apeared to be in good condition, but I didn't go any further than a good glancing over!I did a google search, and didn't find much more than that the company was in Canada, and still makes industrial lathes.Basically, overall,  what is your opinion of this lathe? This is all the info he sent me on it, and the tooling that he is including with it.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Luxcut 13 X 36 Metal Lathe, 220 volt Single Phase 2HP motor.Includes the following:3 jaw self centering chuck4 jaw independent chuckChuck "T" wrench(2)Face PlatesDog plateSteady RestCollet Closer (remove chuck and install collet closer)Quick change tool post with tool holdersKnurling tool Cut-off toolTail StockLive CenterDrill Chuck(2) Indexible carbide tool holders(right hand & left hand).Indexible boring bar (small)Misc. Reply:Looks just like the grizzly 13 by 37" grizzly lathe I have.  Got it for a whopping $200 with all the tooling about 3 months ago.  My buddy lost his storage space, so I ended up with it for what I had in my wallet.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:Huh!Oh. hey there is someone alive around here! $200.00!Man, you stole that thing!I have been keeping my eyes peeled to craigslist, ebay, the local papers and ears open whenever I am around town for a deal on one, but no such luck!#1. Reply:Looks like there's quite a bit of gear with it. Looks nice and clean. Don't know your local values but it's probably quite cheap in comparison to here. the tooling would be quite a cost in itself, so you're probably doing pretty well. I've just got a second hand Harrison 13" and I'm finding the tooling cost to be quite high in comparison to the lathe. On the subject of which:For the princely sum of $695.90, you could have got this Luxcut. It's also 36" between centres.Plus all the smokey smell for free That's probably a "dead" Live centre in the tailstock."One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for." Reply:Wow Tractapac!Talk about someone having a fire sale! I usually try not to buy hot items! The more that I think about it, the more I think that you are right about it being a not bad deal, as he does have a lot of tooling to go with it, and I know it works good, he cut a new spindle on it for the horizontal bandsaw that I bought off of him just prior to me buying it, the old spindle had a pretty good groove in it from a frozen bearing in the wheel hub.I don't really have the money to buy it right now, as I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a new to me but nice used Esab Migmaster 251 welder, but he said he would let me give him whatever I can until it is paid for, I think I might just go ahead and do it!#1.
