I saw a milwaukee porta band for sale near me. Like new for $100. Any thoughts? I have never used one. Reply:I've had one for 12 years now.  Never had a minute's trouble.  Used it heavily as we first got into business.  As business picked up, bought a horizontal bandsaw.  About the only time we use it is when we need to cut a pipe that we can't take down to the get to the pipe machine.  I don't know about other brands being lighter and faster.  I DO know that, for a $100, if its in good shape, its a steal.  If I ran across one at that price, I'd buy it.TurkeyLincoln Idealarc 250Millermatic 250Miller Synchrowave 250 Miller Synchrowave 350Thermal Arc PlasmaHH140Miller Diversion
Reply:I use Milwaukee portabands all the time at work. They are great when you don't have a shop to work out of and have to fabricate things at the job site. $100 is a great price if it's in good working order. They usially go for ~ $400 new.
Reply:It is an awesome tool. It's less messy and much quieter than a chopsaw.Once you get a feel for it, accurate cuts are a piece of cake.You can also make a little table for it to turn it into a vertical bandsaw.GREAT tool.

Reply:for a hundred dollars you should drive straight there and get it, drive over nuns, puppies and nuns with puppies if you have to.  the porter cable is lighter and easier to use, and i think ridgid makes one similar to the porter cable, but any portaband is better than no porta band, and for a hundred bucks, there really is no need for discussion.  i have had a milwaukee for five years now its given me no trouble.
