I know a lot of you are out in farm land so I figured I would post this. I just loaded our bush hog into the truck to go off to the scrap pile... It has a bad case of unrepairable frame rust. Anyway I could not bring myself to toss the gear box and PTO shaft, and I just put new blades and bolts on it this fall The gear box has no problems that I know of, I am not opening it up to look inside, but it has always been maintained with oil and the seals are all good. The shaft it not bent. The blades have only been used for about an hour last fall when I put them on. They have some dings in them (hay it's a Bush Hog...) they even still have rust free spots on them still. the bolts are also new and covered in never seize The Bush Hog is I think a 5' 540 RPM PTO model If I see a PN in it I will post back.So Up for grabs are:Blades (2) $20Blade Bolts (2) $10Gear box with all the fixings... (1) FREE to a good home If anayone is interested please let me know and I can add some pictures.Me!
Reply:Uh...... Why not build a new deck, and keep the parts? I started my business by taking old equipment especially rotary mowers, and building new decks for them. Made a fair amount of money doing it. If you re-use the old three point hitch and tail wheel then you should be able to build a deck a lot cheaper than buying a new mower. Just a thought.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I considered rebuilding it, but I have only used it once in the last 7 years. It got the most use as a weight on the back of the tractor. I put the new blades on last year to help a friend clean up a yard (it was a little out of hand...) I I thought I could sell it locally I would rebuild it, but there is not exactly a market in my area and I have no use for it.Me!
Reply:Ok you now have me looking to see what new units go for....Me!
Reply:A good used hd gearbox alone is probably worth $80-$100. My dad had to put a new 60hp gearbox on one of his for $375.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'. |
