Been having some real issues with my eyes for about a week. All I could figure was that it related to the AD hood I've been using for years. It's a Lincoln Viking.Anyhow, my feeling was that the cartridge had become sluggish or messed up in some way. I've been unable to go out in sunlight without very dark sunglasses the eyes hurt so bad. So I head off to the money pit (LWS) to maybe buy a new cartridge, and I start looking around I see this hood hanging on the wallThe long and short of it............................I BUY THE NEW HOODOf course, this was after calling K'kins for the seal of approval She tells me "it's probably the last hood you'll ever buy again, so go ahead and get a good one".............Thanks Babe, nice to know I'm getting near the end of the roadI get home, eat lunch, and decide to try this thing out. Better be better'n sliced bread for what it cost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Being as I'm pretty bored with working on the hay rake for now, I figured I'd make a sheet metal storage rack I've been meaning to put together for a few years."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Racks nice samm, what hood did you go with?I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:So here's the new goodieHas all sorts of fancy controls tooBUT THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IS THE OPTICS I've never seen a puddle so clearly without resorting to my old faithful gold lens. THIS THING ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!All the uphill welds were made with the rack on the table, so I was looking from above, down through the arc, to see the puddle. Usually a PITA.Some of that nasty ol' self shielding flux coreAnd the old reliable 7018This thing makes it EASY. I mean the BEST visibility I've ever experiencedAnd the camo makes me almost perfectly invisible when K'kins comes looking to get some Honey Do's done"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Nice hood Samm. Very fancy. My AD was giving me grief a few months back. Cleaned the clear lens and replaced the batteries but it was still funky occasionally. Replaced the front lens... no more issues. Worked perfect again. Only thing I could figure was the lens filtered just enough at certain angles to slow the response. I bought a stack of clear lens from the LWS and I now change them regularly rather than being cheap trying to clean them. If it doesn't wipe off easy... it get's replaced. I also put an old TV remote on a string so I can test my helmet before striking an arc. I almost switched back to a fixed shade. I like that your new helmet has a grind mode. Have you tried the preset for torch mode yet? It looks like it has a lot of adjustment.

Reply:I cleaned the sensors on the old helmet on the suggestion of the dood at the LWS, but it still was acting funky. I'm like you too, change the front plate regularly."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:"Good looking welding hood, goes with my AR10. Do they make one with a hunting setting? " I thought it was a bit overkill too, but it was the only one they had in this model ROFL"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Nice of wife to give permission for the new hood. It's nice buying a present for yourself. You will definitely get your money's worth out of it. Maybe make something for the wife or take her to dinner.

Reply:Looks like a really good one, Samm. I got the new cover lenses for my Speedglas 100 and while digging thru my welding rod drawer found some glass cheaters I must have bought at a yard sale and then forgot about them. My old plastic one was pretty scratched up. W/ the new covers and new glass cheaters I can see clearly again.
