Hey guys, I am a new member from Sydney, Australia. I am currently starting my own workshop up and I am completley undecided on a new plasma cutter.Either going with the:   Hypertherm 1000 or Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 82The hyperthem is $4500 and Thermal $3500The Cutmaster seems better in every aspect, 80 amp compared to 60cheaper consumables4 year warrenty compared to 3I know the hyperthem is American made, but I have been told the Thermal Dynamics is made in China and prone to problems.. can anyone confirm this? Thanks for any commentsLast edited by dpac; 05-26-2009 at 08:44 PM.
Reply:I have a Hypertherm Powermax 1000. It is a very good machine. I played around with it when I first got it, and it will cut metal thicker than they advertise. The consumables last a long time also. I believe you are way off on price unless everything down there is just that much more. I paid around $2000.00 two years ago for mine..............................."Look Good Doing It"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I just bought cutmaster 52 and made in the usa.  My .02 cent by local if you can?  If you troubles you can bring it back .  packing and sending stuff sucks and all the down time .   I very happy with my TD 52 I wish I had the extra coin to get the 82.   52 was like $ 1648.00 with tax out the door.DayeLast edited by tigmusky; 05-26-2009 at 09:03 PM.

Reply:Thermal Dynamics hand plasma cutting systems power supplies are manufactured in their plant in West Lebanon, NH, USA......the torches are manufactured (mostly) in Mexico. Thermal's corporate office is in St. Louis, Missouri. Thermal Dynamics is a division of Thermadyne....a publicly traded company.Hypertherm plasma systems are all manufactured (torches included) in their Hanover and Lebanon, NH USA facilities.....the corporate offices are at the same location. Hypertherm is an employee owned company....and has maintained its workforce with no lay0ffs through the economic downturn.Hypertherm and Thermal are located near each other....as much of the early plasma cutting technology was developed in NH in independant research facilities that had afilliation with Dartmouth College's Thayer School of Engineering.Jim Colt
Reply:thanks jim.i knew that there was some grains of truth in my tiny little mind.G
