I know that there has been lots of rumors/tales over the years about why the Red/Blue face SA 200s built after the Long Hood Black face Machines were made, that only had this color scheme on the face plate, and that most answers that I've heard were that they were made special for the military or that some large company had ordered the SA 200 with that type of face plate so that it would stand out. Well....Not long ago, I happen run into an older man probably in his late 80s that had worked on electric motors, generators, welders in his early years, and I ask him if he knew any history about the SA machines, and he said "Yes I Do", So said , "Do you know the story about why Lincoln Electric made the Red/Blue face plate for the SA 200s, and what was the purpose". He said "It was the year that mark the 50th anniversary that Lincoln Electric made the first adjustable Open Circuit Voltage welder", being that they had added a Rheostat for fine tuning the Arc. I was a little shocked to hear that, because I had never heard of that story! Just wanted to pass this on, and hopefully get some feed back from others that might know of this.SA 200s : 1944 1945 1963 1965 1969 1981 SA 250 D3.152 DC only2004 Ranger 10,000Lincoln Pro Mig 135Miller Load BankHobart GPB 258 PipelinerHobart GPB 261 MainlinerHobart Airforce 250Everlast PA 200st

Reply:never heard that story , makes no sense , guess we'll never no the real story , hard to believe no one here is an original owner of one , or worked at lincoln during those years to break the story wide open
Reply:Sounds reasonable to me. It almost sounds patriotic.Lincoln, ESAB, Thermal Dynamics, Victor, Miller, Dewalt, Makita, Kalamzoo. Hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting tools.
Reply:Could be true according to Lincoln's site. Apparently on the red/blue the engines were balanced so maybe they just represent the best of the best. I think the earliest red/blue were 1959 but not positive. https://www.lincolnelectric.com/en-a...y-history.aspx
Reply:From some of break downs of the Red/Blue face machines, they had the flex plate adapter. My 63 Redface has the main armature bolted directly to the crank shaft, I don't think it gets anymore balanced than that.SA 200s : 1944 1945 1963 1965 1969 1981 SA 250 D3.152 DC only2004 Ranger 10,000Lincoln Pro Mig 135Miller Load BankHobart GPB 258 PipelinerHobart GPB 261 MainlinerHobart Airforce 250Everlast PA 200st |
