Safety Concerns on building a welding table

Just bought my first welder and wanted to start out by making a table for it, the gas, and all the other odds and ends that go with it.  What I'm worried about is putting the gas and the actual welder on the same table I plan to do the work on.  What are the safety issues regarding both the tanks and the welder itself being connected to the charged work surface?  Can I separate with wood or plastic?  (I would take precautions to avoid sparks coming in contact if that is the answer)  I really don't want multiple carts but I want my house exploding even less.  I appreciate your help on what I'm sure is a very novice question.Thank you-------------------------Miller Multimatic 200
Reply:You can put the gas with the welder.  It's inert gas, so it's not gonna blow up on you.  I would just make sure your bottle is sucure wherever you decide to put it.

Reply:You'll find a welding machine confined to the table isn't the best setup for me at least. The machine will be fixed under the table which means, if you are using mig ,the cable and gun could have some tight bends in it which might not be the best for machine. The 10' gun cable is gonna get short real fast too. A separate cart setup for multiple machines or three shelves will make it extremely useful.

Reply:it should be okay from a safety standpoint but having a cart would save the table space and alow you to work away from the table
