Hey guys I was in Tractor Supply the other day and saw a Clarke Pipe bender for around 90 bucks.  I was wondering if anybody on here has one and can tell me if there any good.  It wouldnt be used everyday and when it gets used its not going to be anything heavy.  It looked like it was made out of fairly heavy material.ThanksTom
Reply:I bought HF's version of this bender, years ago, before I knew better. It's a pipe bender, like it says, but asfar as tubing goes it'll leave some nasty marks in your material where the pins rest against it. If you just need some simple 90's and such, it'll do what's needed. If you're thinking about using it for fabwork, rollcages, sliders, bumpers, etc,, I'd pass and put my money towards a better bender. I own a JD2 bender, that i converted to air over hydro and couldn't imagine going back to this style of bender for my needs. my .02...Hillbilly Fabworks
Reply:It wouldnt be anything that needed to be real pretty.  Just something to play with.  Do you happen to have any pics of anything you bent with it?  Just wondering what kind of nasty marks it leaves. ThanksTom
Reply:On the JD2.    How difficult was it to convert to air over hydraulic? Originally Posted by BNFI bought HF's version of this bender, years ago, before I knew better. Reply:Thanks for the reply!  Originally Posted by BNFI don't but I'll try and snag some next time I think of it. the conversion was pretty easy. I had a 20% off coupon from the evil ole HF store. So I snagged on of their air over hydro cylinders for their cherry pickers. I even went sofar as to convert my horizontal bending JD2 to a vertical style. I did for the simple fact that I usually have more space to bend upwards, than to the sides. It also makes it easier to hold plumb when making multiple bends on the same stick of tube. There will be some that prefer the horizontal style over the vertical, but it was just something I wanted to try.  Here's a link to show you how I changed it. I patterned my bender in the same style and fashion as the Pro3/Pro4 benders on this site.  http://www.probender.com/
