I am little excited . Will know by the end of the day . If I get it, it will be a brand new Powermax 600 for $800 USD. Seems like a heck of a deal. My Brother will be picking it up. If the deal slips away, my price of admission will double and I will probably buy a local HP 45 from my LWS in a few weeks.Bob.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMillermatic 211Hypertherm PM 600In Tool acquisition Mode
Reply:Paid the money , now it is at my Brothers house in Montreal. It was bought through a liquidator. New and complete. Apparent Hypertherm warranty till Nov 2010. Any suggestions for  giving it dry clean air? I have not run any air lines into the welding area of my shop yet, so will be working with a clean slate. Was thinking of 3/4 inch iron pipe after the rubber hose from the compressor to the regulator.Bob.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMillermatic 211Hypertherm PM 600In Tool acquisition Mode

Reply:I just emailed a guy who has one for $650.  Trouble is it is 4.5 hours away.  I am trying to get a friend of mine who lives in his area make the grab for me.  I thought it might be a good deal.  After reading yours now I know it is.

Reply:We actually have that same one at work.  I am very much a novice in using it, but from watching our head fabricator use it, I can tell you they are very nice, especially for sheet metal.  Congratulations, I hope I make out as well as you did.
Reply:Congrats,  sounds like a good deal as far as dry air if you are using  a compressor try to stay away from chemical desecant dryer systems.  In our area (I am from the Toronto area as well)  we are cursed with a very humid climate which is bad for getting dry air off a compressor. If you are going to be piping your shop for air consider using 1/2" or 3/4" copper and soldered  construction. You'll want to run your line uphill from your compressor with your take-offs  on horizontal runs off of TEES with the 90 degree branch of the tee being your connection and that branch pointing upwards plumbed to quick connects (Princess Auto)     Every 2 lengths of copper install a downward pointing TEE with a 2' or so branch to a valve (this is called a mud-leg) you will be able to drain a small amount of condensation from these valves.      The  theory behind all of this  is that water (condensate under pressure ) is lazy and runs downhill even under pressure.  By drawing air off at ports high in the system you will draw less condensate, be-cause air is heavier than water it will drain into the mud-legs.     I recommend Copper because black pipe will corrode much faster and the particulate  (rust ) will clog the orifices in your nice new plasma set-up, plus you shouldn't need more than 90 PSI for shop air.   Chemical dessecant systems are also available but they can pollute your system with small whiteparticles of calcium as they start to break down.     If you've got a need for extremely dry air you could go as far as heat tracing your supply lines with an electrical heat tracer on a timer.        Contact me if you need any clarification ... have fun
Reply:Thanks for the reply Ol Stick Guy. Wouldn't a motorguard filter take care of any rust issues, as they filter to less than 1 micron. I have already bought most of my Pipe fittings, so it will have to be steel air plumbing into the room. Still have to do electrical, and ventilation before this equipment gets fired up, so it might take a month to get everything set up.Bob.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMillermatic 211Hypertherm PM 600In Tool acquisition Mode
Reply:Yes 1 micron would do the trick, I didnt know how far along you were in installation, But when you do your  ports take my advice for drawing off uphill tees it sounds like a bunch of horse puckey but it definitely works.      If your doing ventilation you  should check out downdraft tables you could  make one yourself and put it in your exhaust loop with a blast-gate type slider      Bob, you  should check out Red-D-Arc in Mississauga for deals on used equipment ,I got myself one hell of a deal on a Miller Dynasty Tig machine there.
Reply:Hello...I have a Powermax 600 and it's a great machine.  You should be aware that there IS a filter inside the machine, but I'd discount it as being effective as a primary filter.  I think the best set-up is to put the unit on a rolling cart and connect to air source with a hose.  On the cart, set up a 5 micron filter (cheap impaction type) and then go into a coalescing particulate, oil, water filter.  Use a jumper house to the machine.  Don't hang anything on the machine.   I use this same set-up and have used Motorguard type filters.  My current set up is better. Close to machine is best for ALL filters. ... but in anycase... you need BOTTH filters.  Whatever fixed piping you use make sure it's pressure rated and can take abuse.  The final filter will die early if you don't use a prefilter.  A coalescing filter will preform as well if not better than a media filter, but it needs to be sized for the application.  If your interested, I have some extras.  Hypertherm also sells them as an accessory.  I have same model with auto-purge, shielded bowl and change filter indicator  You can contact me off-line.  Work safeAndy

Reply:Bob check out the Red-D-Arc place in Mississauga I got a great deal on a Miller Dynasty 200   $1500+ taxes and they had lots of smaller inverters they pro-rate as they come back to the shop also there is an outfit that sells on E-bay out of Stoney Creek that gets a lot of nice 3 phase stuff and they will sell to the public.
Reply:Thanks, I phoned the place in Mississauga and they have quoted me about $3300 for a used Miller Synchrowave 250 (Outta my budget for a used machine). I guess I should wander into the showroom. I think I would have sprung for the $1500 Miller 200, but I am not sure exactly which Tig to go for. I have some enquiries out to a used miller 250 near Peterborough,or maybe a new precision Tig 225 at my local welding store (Praxair in Toronto). I am getting very attentive service there. Reply:Just picked up my PMax 600 that my brother procured for me. I didn't know it was a "Special Edition" model, commemorating 50,000 units sold. It is in Gold Metal Flake paint!!  Wow, will the Pmax 600 ever be a colllectable? ?  On the downside, it is a little bigger than I thought it would be.  BTW, Very good documentation comes with them. Can't wait to plug it in , when the motor guard filters arrives via US Post.Bob.Miller Dynasty 200 DXMillermatic 211Hypertherm PM 600In Tool acquisition Mode
