A little Fire Pit build..............

Last weekend I decided I needed a fire pit........$60 in steel later I had the drop I needed......... And an excuse to use up some Hobart 6011 that I've had in the cabinet for a while......3/16" steel sheet......  3/32 6011 Hobart TSC rod..........70 amps...... Reply:Nice job, Fex... Last spring I had to splice in a partial firepan on a pit customer bought at a big botch store. I swear it was made out of soupcans...maybe 22 or 24 guage...but I fixed with 16ga. I now need to rock in the area and build the official fire pit area with seating........We have lots of wood...... I just sawed up 5 big pines.... they split real easy with the axe.......... and there is a pile of Oak out there too...... and I have friend with 10 acres of wood....... Reply:Thickness depends on how often you will use it, how hot you run the fire and environment of storage. Here in the Pacific Northwest we tend to run a big hot fire and have lots of rainy days both contribute to rust and heat cycles will accelerate rusting. Reply:There is actually a 3/16 slit in the bottom...... But gets covered with ash quickly so is useless.... But it still works well........ I burned for 12 hours on Sunday...... Today is Tuesday and the ash is still hot enough that I was able to start a new fire with no effort.......I'll be putting white rock down to make a fire ring with seating......This thing will burn non stop.........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Save the ashes ,sift them , pour water over them and catch the liquid.  Heat your left over bacon grease pour in the sodium hydroxide(Ashe and water) stir until thickens . Add rose petals of your choice or other flowers that have a great smell.  Pour in cookie pan and let cool. Cut into squares........... Fexal you just make use of the fire pit to make your own soap factory.    Lye Soap.  I bet there are a lot of other uses for your fire pit.  Maybe take Banjo lessions while sitting around the fire.   Good job  on the pit Now I gotta build one for the Family.  Richey.  Sweet Home Alabama
