Hello,First off, I'm a total newb when it comes to welding, I've searched a little but it seems this info is too basic to be published anywhere . I was purchasing some tungsten and thought I'd get myself some parts to make a gas lens setup. It is my understanding that the numbers stamped on the collet bodyare the size collet that it accepts. For instance my current collet body is stamped 3/32-2.4 which I'm assuming is the standard and metric measurements. I'm currently using a 2.0mm collet with 2mm tungsten which seems to tighten down fine. The gas lenses I'm looking at are one for 1/16 and one for 3/32 along with the appropriately sized tungsten. In the image below it has the numbers 3/32-32thd. I'm assuming that this is the thread diameter and pitch and that all wp17 style torches are this thread pitch?I'm also assuming that standard collets will fit the lenses unless marked as a stubby lens? I've been using a size 7 cup and 15-17cfm for most of my welding (mostly 1/8" mild steel and aluminum). Will a size 7 still work fine or should I go to a smaller cup with the gas lens setup?Thank you for your time,-Alex
Reply:All WP17 collet bodies, including gas lenses, will have the same threading, to match your torch. The collets are the same between gas lense bodies and standard ones. The exact nozzle size you use will depend on your preferences, but I believe that size seven is what Weldcraft recommends for 3/32" electrodes.Everlast PA160-STH... and that's about it!
Reply:Yep, collets are the same. What you will run into is cup sizes for large, regular gas lens and small gas lens. You have to buy nozzles that fit the particular gas lens size.
Reply:Thanks for the input guys, looks like I wasn't too far off.-Alex |
