Spent last night cleaning and oiling her up. Slides all smooth and tight. Had a little end play in the chuck shaft but it was only an adjustment. Found the right leather belts at a place where they repair commercial sewing machines. The Black & Decker "Vibrocentric" seat refacer is pristine. Instruction manual, parts list, and the warranty papers are in the box.Now I just have to hook up a coolant system for the Sioux. I hate cutting dry. Although I did cut a few valves last night dry and they came up real nice.Joewww.CummingsHauling.com
Reply:Neat, where did you snag that at?
Reply:The seat machine came from Asbury Park. $40 Madam Marie hooked me up. The Sioux came from Newark De. I had to give the guy $200 for that Joewww.CummingsHauling.com
Reply:Joe,I picked up a slightly newer valve grinder (645) a few years ago. I contacted Sioux and they were kind enough to send me a manual for my machine. It's been real hand to have around...Jim
Reply:Yeah real handy. I hate automotive machinists for the most part. They always take forever and try to take control of your job. And lots of times if you check their work it isn't always right.I had an old Case skid steer with the 3 cylinder continental. The whole machine was a POS, but it ran and did what I needed it for. The retaining ring for the wrist pin failed and it wore grove in the cylinder wall.So after I tear it down, I find out the parts for this POS are astronomical in price. Everything looks pretty good but that one cylinder. So the groove is maybe 0.020" deep where the rings ride and somewhat deeper below that.So I order one 0.060 over piston and rings, And standard rings and bearings for the rest of the motor.I played hell trying to get a automotive machinest to bore the one cylinder. Not only did they have a problem with boring one, but they all said 0.060 wasn't going to remove the whole groove. I'm telling them that what is left is below where the rings ride, so who cares? They all wanted to turn this engine into a multimillion dollar project.I just want to glue my junk back together and stop it from blowing all its oil out the breather. The case skid steer with the continental was a loser from the day it was new. They were just lemons. And mine was beat to hell. If I listened to these guys I would have had a $5,000 engine in a $1,500 machine. So I get a guy I know to cut it for cash on a saturday moonlighting. Cost me 30 bucks. The engine ran fine. Didn't burn a drop of oil, and it was as smooth as any other 3 cylinder continental. That was 5 years ago. I sold it to a guy I know and it is still running. Those auto machinists all think you are stupid and that they have you over a barrel. Screw them.Joewww.CummingsHauling.com
