I am forced to use a miller bobcat welder at work. I am a lincoln guy myself. I am working off a manlift and I have to use a generator to run the grinder because I cant get the welder to run 110 ac and weld without switching the switch on the welder. Are they supposed to be able to do this?
Reply:What year and model Bobcat are you using?  If you don't know the year, post the first two letters of the serial number.  We can tell the year from that.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:He can use any 110-120v 60 Hz AC device on his Bobcat's 110v AC generator output.  On mine, to get max AC power, the fine current control has to be set to max.  It will still give generator power at any current setting, just not the max it is capable of.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Is it in fact a Bobcat Welderskelter?I've seen my Roughneck 2E referred to as a 'bobcat' before and with the Roughneck (and other non-Bobcats) you have to switch from WELD to POWER and manually idle the unit to POWER speed.Just thought I'd ask to be sure.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Could be a Legend or a Blue Star 2E as well. They all have weld/power switches.QamuIs Heg qaq law' lorvIs yInqaq puS
Reply:Yeah Don, I was thinking along those lines and can see where a Legend could easily be mistaken for a Bobcat.By someone from the 'Red Team' anyway.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I had a Bobcat of about 1984 vintage or 1 or 2 years older.  It had a weld/AC switch on it.

Reply:Sandy, I believe that is what they use overseas. I think I heard that somewhere. Sometimes our shavers and such dont run good on their juice.

Reply:You sure it was a Bobcat? They didn't start that line until 87/88...86 at the very earliest. I got one of the first ones in the series. 84 was Blue Star 2E time...or the venerable AEAD200LE, DEL's and some Blue Chargers.QamuIs Heg qaq law' lorvIs yInqaq puS

Reply:You just described a MIller AEAD 200LE or a Blue Star 2E AC/DC with add on twistlocks. If it had a twin cylinder Onan CCK, it was an AEAD. If it had a 13hp Tecumseh, it was a Blue Star. I have owned and used both units. They all had irritating three gallon steel outboard tanks. I just ran the serial number for a Bobus with a 84 prefix and it spit it back saying invalid number. Bobcats have always had no less than 8 gal inside the frame and under the engine tanks. They were also 100% duty cycle machines with full use power and weld available together for the first time instead of the power while welding plugs. I just sold my Bobcat 225G yesterday. It was a 88 model and Miller in Appleton Engine Drive Dept. told me it was a first run, first in the series unit.....with an extremely early in the model  manufacture date. Reply:Neither. It was an AEAD 200LE. The yellow and red twist locks are the dead giveaway. Is this the critter? They were excellent three phase four pole welding generators. Quiet too. Mine was pretty easy on gas, too. Well, not mine as in I owned it. Mine as it was on my truck for several years. I owned the Blue Star 2E. The 200LE was MUCH quieter than the Blue Star.QamuIs Heg qaq law' lorvIs yInqaq puS
Reply:So can I retract post #10?Was I wrong being wrong??Does that actually mean two wrongs do make a right???I'm so confused.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Hey I have a question about the picture listed above, the bluestar 2e. I just bought one, runs good.  However, I have no idle up to running speed and no power at the outlets and no power to the leads for welding.  Anyone have any ideas?  I don't know enough about this machine as I literally just bought it!
Reply:What you describe covers a couple of different things. Best thing I can reccomend is go to Miller's website and download the manual for your unit by serial number..then start with the symptoms in the trouble shooting section. To me, it sounds like you may need a welder doc. You can also call Miller on Monday and see what they say. The engine drive people are very good at tracking troubles.QamuIs Heg qaq law' lorvIs yInqaq puS
