Here is the classic Lincoln Electric film on distortion control, starring Mr. Shrink!  Anyone who has been through the basic SMAW class at Lincoln has seen this, and all beginners, and a few veterans should watch.. enjoy

Reply:http://download.cnet.com/YTD-Video-D...ml?tag=mncol;2works awesome.  Not all videos are downloadable---some "current" music videos are protected from such programs, but 99.999% of the stuff on youtube is downloadable.Note:  You must be very careful when installing software like this, especially if you're NOT computer-saavy.  Many of the windows you see while the installation takes place are third-party advertisement offers that the installer prompts you to "accept" or "decline".  They are not required for installation, so you can always "decline" them because it only declines the 3rd-party offer, not the acceptance of the actual program installation.  Similarly, sometimes you must select "advanced" installation to be able to "un-check" the installation of 3rd-party advertisement offers.  Otherwise, you might inadvertently grant permission for those 3rd-party applications to change settings on your computer or web browser (like browser homepage, desktop icons, etc, etc.  Consider yourself warned, lol. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:Walt Disney and LINCOLN Electric are my favorites.  I had no idea that Mr Shrink could get tired .
Reply:I have been looking for that since High School, my shop teacher had it on film strip, and VHS.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:Can someone explain the fillet welding method at about 7:30 in the video?
Reply:They are refering to "Fleet weld" A Lincoln term.  Commercial name for higher penetration with small fillet size.  With a small fillet you get less distortion.  If you can ensure that you have penetrated deeper then you can reduce size and have the same strength.   All this relies on proof by qualifying the weld procedure to convince the engineer that the effective throat is actually there even though the fillet size is small.
