Reply:I'm entering mine as the table with the most firepower!Steel Welding Table with Adjustable Legs that I converted to wheels.Thickness of top: Approx. 3/4Thickness of bottom: Approx 1/4-3/8"Size: Approx 61 x 40Height: Approx. 31 ½ (taller now with the wheels)Weight: Approx. 945 lbs.Coating: Doesn't seem to be paint... maybe some sort of anodizing?Interesting pattern of threaded holes on the top. It apparently might have been a laser/optical table. Apparently they wanted it very dimensionally stable. Here's a picture of that top:Overall just after putting on wheels:
Reply:This is my entry for the category of Fastest, or Most Space Saving. It folds quicker than than stuff that coats Spam, and weighs just as much, yet sports 14 gauge top, handy hole to stick the mig gun, can ground clamp anywhere on it, and can fit behind the seat in my truck for field jobs! Best of all, it was a garage sale find that had a busted up bamboo top on it. So, I am doing my part to recycle and re-purpose an existing item that other wise would have made a home in a land fill. Reply:Here is the only pic I could find of my old welding table, It's a scan job but. 5'6" wide X 12' long 3/4inch plate top, You can see the wire welder feeder from a trolley I had it on. The power supply was against the back wall. You can just catch a glimpse of it. (orange) That ran the length of the table and 5' beyond. The legs were 4 or 5 inch square tubing, don't remember. Probably drops from a job. It had a w beam frame under it and a 1 ton hoist on a mono rail over the top. I had a jig set up on it for ADA railings and a 4 ft protractor scribed in on one end for ornamental. Reply:ZTFab--1/2" Blanchard Ground Top--That's outstanding! You win the most precise dead flat top for sure. My local steel yard sells smaller 1/2, 3/4 and 1" in 12" squares but they want three arms and four legs for the stuff. DAkook--weld and cook your lunch at the same time, definitely front runner for innovation.
Reply:I'm not sure if this one will be counted, since I didn't build it. It was custom made, though. For some type of machine, I'm sure. But if you do count it.Thickest top, 2"Heaviest table ~ 2800lbs.Side note: If I had a pic I would enter (by proxy for the table's owner) the mother of all tables. It was at the shop where I got the bender/table combo at auction. The top was at least 1-1/2" thick. it was about 10' by 16' with W24 I beam rails and W36 I beam legs. The machinist who works there said it weighs 16k lbs. But I don't have a pic so never mind. Reply:Honestly, my bench is gonna hit the canvas hard in the first round. 1/8-inch lightweight with an exotic plan and storage that's mind-numbingly 'tidy.'But after going down in the first, it does fold up and out of the way, which is cool. And for the junior flyweight class:

Reply:Okay, finally bothered to grab my camera while I was out today ... here's my entry for Most Compact Table For Free (Top Donated By The Arizona HighwayDepartment). That tabletop is an old road sign that I found in a ditch, while the base is an old typewriter table that was out by a dumpster in a back alley. The vise,vise-grips, and small C-clamps came from Harbor Freight (okay, the table was for free - I bought the stuff that's on it!)Oh, yeah, the custom bends were made by a Peterbilt cement truck.Last edited by SpyGuy; 06-19-2009 at 12:49 AM.

Reply:I guess start going to some of the truck dealerships, shipping yards, and truck stops, and begin asking around. Pass out some business cards (but not to the lot lizards!), see if you can get some business rolling that way. Good point to have on your business card is you've got a mobile rig, and can come to them.

Reply:Truthful answer. The only thing you need a calender for is to write down what you did that day. The only thing you need a watch for is to add up the time spent on a job. Other than that, Sat Sun, doesn't matter what day of the week or time of the day. A mobile welder is usually available 24 / 7 / 365. Next, pass out cards at every construction site there is a back hoe, excavator, dump truck, you name it. Be prepared to put in long hours and do quality work, when needed by the customer. If Joe customer breaks a back hoe at 3;00 in the afternoon and needs it to finish a job tomorrow, You have to do what it takes to repair it. Even if it takes till 7 the next morning. Promise what you can deliver, then deliver on your promise. You do that for awhile, word of mouth will take over. Then you weed out the whiners, slow payers, and pick and choose your customers.Lincoln Ranger 8 Lincoln 175 Drill pressLincoln 225 mig Plasma 8 ft brake 52" jump shear
