So I got the idea to make picture frames because my sister's a photographer, and I figured that her artwork could look super cool if I were to make really nice picture frames. Now please stand by and listen! This is a pro type that literally took my 45 minutes to make! Instead of drawing it on a piece of paper I just went and made it out of the top of my head. And all the metal used was out of the scrap pile at school.I welded a simple crappy bead of my sisters name just because i gave it to her for her dorm room. but the bottom can fit a 4x6 standard photo that just sits there in the crease between the square tube and the backing. I found some flat bar and put it in the scroll bender and made some cool stands real quick. But when I go to make a detailed and better looking copy I am going to make it bigger, and have way more effort lol.

Reply:That's pretty neat

One of the worst  non harming things a welder can do is to punctuate his bad welds by writing. Overall I like the "feel" of the frame. It is different and most likely the only thing in an average living room that would get my interest.I would like to see some prettier welds but I certainly give it a thumbs up!
Reply:Did you cut those scrolls off of someones fence?  Not bad tho! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:I like the idea, project. Use stainless or aluminum that you can polish. Miter the corners. Weld in a strip around the inside, narrower than the outer material, centered. Make the back removable. So it fits the ID of main material, and rests against the strip you put in. Use levers to hold it together, quarter turn to unlock, if you can picture what I mean. Glue glass in the front against that strip, inside of the main material. A gasket on the back plate to help keep dust out could be helpful. You have the option of keeping the beads, or sanding and polishing them out.
Reply:Steve, do you have any pictures of the backside of that one?  I've always like that frame!Craig MontgomeryM&L Fabrication, LLChttps://www.facebook.com/pages/ML-Fa...8228829?ref=hl
Reply:Thanks for the advice. I am limited as of right now because i have not yet learned to TIG weld. In January i will be learning how to TIG. So as of right now im limited to stick and MIG. i am going to draw up a more detailed design and see about possibly getting something like glass or even acrylic because i could cut that myself for the front. I want to get some thinner lighter weight metal and realy make it look good. But i dont think i can realy work with any metal other than steel with the MIGs at school
Reply:Steel works fine as well. You can be very creative with paint.

Reply:How do you shape that metal too look so clean and round? That is so cool I cant believe it. I need to get a MIG for myself at home because doing this work at school does not cut it. I am addicted haha, I need to get a MIG welder, should I buy a 120v or a bigger welder to start? I'm only 16 and I wanna start building a collection of tools to do these kind of things.
Reply:Now if I want to heat metal what would my cheapest bet be? just an oxy/acetylene torch?

Reply:Thanks for the advice from all you guys. It's good to get some advice from real welder's.  I'm gonna keep a close lookout on Craigslist for a decent MIG to come up.
