Reply:Did you have to get a background check in order to buy that?!?... I think that that pistol grip classifies it as an assault torch. Reply:Simple, it's amazing! If you are in the market for any hand amptrol spend the extra few bucks this is worth it! I plugged my foot pedal in finally and it almost felt foreign to me. Reply:So is that clear cup you use better then the normal pink kind and why?
Reply:The Pyrex cups aren't necessarily better IMHO, just different. They allow for a little better view of everything, but they're expensive and easy to booger up or break. I have a few different ones, but generally use a number 8 standard gas lens for just about everything. No, I don't weld very much either If you are very careful with them, they last a long time. Plus, they look really cool and make clueless ppl think you're a total stud Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:so is the trigger spring loaded? or do you have to push and pull it each way?maybe you can take it apart and tell me what potentiometer they are using?I have a CK remote amptrol thumb rotary one, dont' use it much because it's jerky to turn on and off, took it apart and there is just a cheap rotary potentiometer in there.  http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...hlight=amptrolalso I had this idea a couple of years ago, they stole it!,http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...hlight=amptrolsadly I never got around to finishing my second prototype, Like I said I would in that thread.

Reply:easier said then done! , the problem is the potentiometer has to be durable enough to be man handled for hours each day, if the stroke lever is weak and most of them are it will break after a few weeks, without actually testing a lot it is hard to determine from a spec sheet if the pot will be strong enough. that's why a specific part number would be great, problem is ck makes their amptrol units hard to take apart.
Reply:Originally Posted by motolife313So is that clear cup you use better then the normal pink kind and why?the foot pedals use a mechnical system to gently push the linear potentiometer back and forth, the shorter the trigger than the less torque is needed and less potential for breakage. I'm guessing ck had the same issues I did in my prototype since they made the trigger very low in height.
Reply:LOL, I don't care if the stole it, though I do think $240 for it is over priced, let me know if you ever crack it open to see what POT they are using. it will save me tons of research!
Reply:"they have been designing it for years"it doesn't take years to design something like this, it's a simple POT switch with a grip for heavens' sake, took me a few hours to make one. I could of spent a few hundred and bought several pot switches, to find the best one, but never got around to it

Reply:ok, if you say so, I personally have no clue how long it took them, but I'd fire any R&D department that took years to make something so simple.Last edited by AluminumWelder; 02-23-2015 at 11:42 AM.

When you are a multimillion dollar a year company I'm sure they spend their time doing R&D, testing, prototypes and field testing. Not a hack job like the one you had in did. You think Miller designs their stuff over a weekend?
