I was welding outdoors with an old fixed shade pipeliner today and it kept fogging up on me. My Jackson AD hood didn't have the same issue. how to do I fix that on the pipeliner?Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Well on the job site, you walk over to the engine drive, and hold your hood over the exhaust pipe for a few seconds. In my shop I have a small milk shed heater I hang my hood in front of. Or if it fogs up while I'm welding I heat the inside of the hood with a heat gun. Bottom line the inside of the hood has to be warmer than your head. Reply:One time I was on a job cutting and welding around some carpenter types. They seen me warm up my hood and burning goggles with the torch. One of the carpenters needed to make a cut, but his burning goggles were fogged up. So he takes the torch, and warms them up. Puts them on his head, then over his eyes. Lets out this very loud scream. Burned a ring around his eyes! Little too long with the torch I guess.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Control your breath if that was the cause and I expect it was.Clean the lens with shaving cream before use. There are also store bought anti fog stuff on the market.Control the breath is all I ever needed.

Reply:Respirator with downward exhaust like the 3M 7500 series keeps your breath out of the hood, and bonus, might give you a few extra years on the end of your life.  Haven't fogged my hood up since I've been usiing the 7500.

Reply:I battle this daily this time of year. It's difficult at -30. I use uvex anti fog wipes. They only help somewhat. My best anti fog device is a halogen lite with a magnetic base. I keep it plugged in next to my portable rod oven. I hang my shield on the lite to warm it. The halogen lite is hot. Without preheating your shield when it's -30, I get about 1/3 of a rod burned and I'm totally fogged up. Makes it hard to do my job.The company I'm currently working for only provides fibremetal shields. The 3m speed glass shields have better breath control.Last edited by snoeproe; 02-22-2015 at 09:12 PM.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

Reply:I've told Mrs. B she was going to deafen herself almost forty years. She has the biggest, meanest hair dryer in the world. My salamander is quieter! Being the loving, caring husband that I am, I bought her a new, nice quiet one. I even got rid of her old one for her. Option two; a LED bulb inside it when not in use. 17 watt Parabolic Aluminum Reflector (PAR 38). I have a Miller Coolband, a head gear with a fan. It picks up air at the back of your head, or belt, and filters it before blowing it over your face. Reply:I have a snowmobile helmet with a removable face mask, It has a check valve pulling inhales from inside the helmet, exhales pass through ducts to the sides of the helmet. I expect someone will market a respirator like this.An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. Reply:What about spitting in it like divers do? Yuck, I know. Only time I've tried it was with redman oozing out the corner of my mouth and it 100 degrees anyways.
