Reply:That is a project and a half.  Good luck and keep us posted.JobSmart MIG125Lincoln AC225-SLincoln Pro-Mig 175Dewalt GrindersRidgid ChopsawIR Garage Mate CompressorAny thing worth doing, is worth doing right.
Reply:Hopefully it got cold enough to cut the number of flies down. I used to have to do work at some of the dairy farms in Buckeye. It was downright nasty in the summer time.
Reply:At this point I'm not sure it really matters much anymore. There isn't much original bucket left to work with. Probably almost faster and cheaper to start with mostly new materials vs trying to do a ton of patching..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:1300 in materials, what's a new or used bucket cost ?

Reply:What are they feeding them?!?  If it were mine I'd push it back into position and weld it, just out of curiosity to see how long it would last.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Everything rusts out on a dairy. Can't really tell from the pictures but most buckets used on a dairy will be paper thin. Heck it will eat the arms off. I suspect if the materials are $1300 it's going to be built right... not some cheap 10 gauge, 1/4" sided bucket.

Reply:Originally Posted by hddnisI can't tell the size from the pictures, but a new bucket could easily be 4-6k or more. We just got a new bucket for a 7k class mini excavator that was $1700.00. Materials to build the same bucket would have been about $600.00Mr. HE
Reply:I grew up in Tempe. Back in the 60's and  70's there was a rendering plant on 48th st. just south of the stockyards that had some VILE odors coming out of it that I am sure were toxic as well. When the wind was right or wrong you could smell that for miles. I am sure they are both gone by now. We used to see/smell dump trucks driving into that stink hole full of bloated cows off the desert.

Reply:The bucket was originally 3/8ths thick now its about 1/4 the problem is its used in there feeding area wich is all concrete and over 6 yrs the wore the side bars and bottom whear plates down to paper thin so assuming they went to dig or pick up something heave and ripped it all apart and the floor section alone 1/2 in with the roll in it is 700 its self ...im going to use a mix of 1/8 and 5/32 7018  And ya the 20 to 30 deg weather has killed all the flys up here

Reply:How did you get the plate rolled?ChrisAuction Addict
Reply:Looking Good!Is it still $1300 for materials?I haven't bought steel that size in a while so to me it seems high.Either way, keep up the good work!
Reply:yeah how did ya roll the plate? looks good though! just mild steel I presume?R.T. Welding LLCOn Site ServiceColumbus, NJ
Reply:I had a shop here in town roll it for me. I had them add 3in on the back for a lap and 1 in on the front to be safe ... its all mild steel besides the two front side bars they are ar400 ...I feel the the price for it all is pretty high ..but I cant really argue it was the only place I could get ar and have that sheet rolled ....
Reply:Originally Posted by milomiloHow did you get the plate rolled?Dsw not to argue with ya but I think it was rolled vs press bumped ill take a better pic tomorrow ..it very well may been but I thought it was to smooth to not be rolled ..
Reply:Possible that it was. I didn't see your reply above mine when I posted.I guessed that it was bumped from that pict. I have seen it where they put the bends fairly close together, almost touching and only do slight bends so it looks really close to being rolled. It's a lot easier to do that if you have a press like a buddy of mine has with an infeed table and a digital scale to measure bends. I've seen him do some pretty complex bends with his press that he can't do easily with his roll..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Really ? Thats interesting ..unfortunately I doubt anyone around me has anything that fancy possibly in denver but not up here in greeley I was lucky to get them to do it without an act with them

Reply:When I was a kid, 15 years old or so, my brothers and I would buy those bricks of .22LR.  We'd load up and go to the local rendering plant and shoot rats using flashlights and .22's.  Had a hoot.  We would fire hundreds of rounds per night, running around in the dark. Can't do that stuff anymore.  Not once were we contacted by anyone, and we never had any kind of accident.  Now after a long night of shooting rats, we'd go somewhere for breakfast.  Wow Wee, we would get used to the stench after an hour or two at the plant, but the nice folks in the restaurants would almost retch.  But those were the days when we would keep our shotguns in our trucks during school so we could go duck hunting when school let out.
Reply:No wire feeder?I could innershield that together in half the time it gonna take you to stick weld that. But if customer not gonna complain then have it.
Reply:why not use ar400 on bottom plate, extra cost im guessing?R.T. Welding LLCOn Site ServiceColumbus, NJ
Reply:I have a ln 25 pro in the truck but No inersheild cus the weld supply was a week out and they had the rod on shelf ..I was going to run a dual sheild wire but the would have had to order that as well ...makes no sense why they didnt stock any of that ...but all in all it didnt take to long to weld the inside out just cranked er up round 180-190 ...and the reason for mild on the floor insted of ar 400 was cost if I remember right they quoted me around 1700 with the roll for just the floor in ar plate

Reply:Might as well forget Cheyenne as neither of the two LWS stores stock very much of anything.  But they would be happy to order it for you and have it there in the morning.

Reply:From the looks of the temps  down here in the SE corner of the state , you should have about a week or so off . Next two days high temp is supposed to reach 16 here .  Glad i only have one water tank to keep open .
