I found some old 7018s that have been open i dont know what brand they are but they are h4r's. When I practiced with them on some scrap the flux started to burn and catch fire. Whats up with them? I did try several of them and all of them did that.Miller Dialarc 250Miller Bobcat 225Hobart Oxy/FuelCouple of Dewalt and Milwaukee GrindersJET Bandsaw and Drill Press

Reply:I wonder if there is some old motor oil or similar on it?
Reply:I had a similar experience with some 15+ year old 7018s that were stored in a fish packing shed (wet). I was using an A/C miller buzz box. The rod would be glowing or melt out of the stinger if I turned the heat high enough to keep the rod from sticking.Miller 180SDLincoln weld pak 180Hobart 250ciMill Lathe
