Here is a new plasma cutting process which uses a liquid and steam to produce the cutting arc instead of compressed air or gas.  No idea how well it works or what the cut quality is.  Have not found much info on this yet.http://www.fronius.com/cps/rde/xchg/...3_ENG_HTML.htmOne video, not super great, but it shows that it cuts.Last edited by pulser; 12-07-2009 at 10:09 AM.
Reply:I've got so many things going on now, but plazma table is one of my passions. I got a ton of info on building one. I like the idea of using a water table, rather then having an open botton table. It seems to collect the flos a lot better. I will build it to place a solid in the botton for an easy convert to router.Vern

Reply:I have used one of these Fronius plasmas. It is relatively low powered....felt like the equivalent of about a 25 Amp plasma. It does not use straight water....it uses some type of a liquid mixture that you need to buy from Fronius...smeeled kind of like auto anti freeze to me!Its an interesting concept....but seems to need some more work from my tests.Jim

Reply:The cut looked like garbage with all the dross.......I am curious as to what the supposed advantage is to using water/steam/friggin proprietary bs or whatever......I think I`ll take my free shop air over something I have to buy anyday. Being a plasma process it still must have a constricted arc right??? So I dont see how it can really be that different. Maybe I`m missing something.......
Reply:It is actually a good concept. Water is made from oxygen and hydrogen......when it turns gaseous you have a pretty good plasma gas mix...essentially better than air which is oxygen and nitrogen. By heating the water and prucing these gasses you also increase the pressure....which is helpful for creating the plasma flow through the nozzle orifice. As I understand it...there is quite a bit of energy used up converting the water to a gas......in a system that uses compressed air, this energy has already been stored in your compressor tank.So....like the small plasma systems that have a built in compressor....that uses energy from your electrical source.......this water plasma also uses energy converting water to gas....then there is less energy available to provide DC power for the plasma arc.Jim
